Removing Seats (Pre-tensioners)

I went to remove my seats yesterday and thought it would just be a matter of unbolting, but nothings ever simple is it. I found out I have seatbelt pre-tensioners and would like to know how I remove the seats without these going off?

Cheers

On my corsa there is a cylinder with a yellow warning sticker on it. There should be a red fork that you insert into the tensioner and that stops it from activating

Yeah it even tells you how and where to put it on the yellow warning sticker (this was the case in my corsa)

Yup, Welsh dude is spot on. Should be a little tab affixed to the tensioner cylinder. You need to insert this at the end closest to the buckle (I think). You'll understand when you get your head down there.

On the Vec you need to disconnect the battery for an hour or so beforehand and disconnect the wiring under the seat.

They don't go off as easily as you might think. I had a pair of subframes that i wanted to use with some bucket seats and wanted to remove the tensioners. I had to hammer a wedge pretty hard into the rivet that holds the tensioner to the subframe to make them fire.

Thats a point. I remember wires but they were for the heated seats.

The tensioners are just mechanical as said.

I think i read that they don't fire off unless they are subjected to 6G acceleration, i.e, in a crash.
What exactly do they do?
Tension the seatbelt?
