Devil SCRATCHED / KEYED CAR !!!! buggers !

    Hi people,

Some ******* keyed my car today from the front all the way to the back!

I cant arrord to get it repaired professionally just yet as ive been quoted 250-320quid...

At the moment its got a huge white gash down the side, is there any temparary solution i can do to it to make it look a little better? like a solution from halfords or a touch up pen of some sort ?

or do i just have to grin and bare it untill the pro`s do it ?

    Cheers in advance

You can get good results with the touch up kits, about a tenner from halfords with the 3 nibbed 'pens'.
The chip sticks do an ok job too, but think they only come with the colourmagic polish crap.

DONT DO IT!! PLEASE, i got one of those last week, and result is crap, or was for me, i primed properly, but when it came to painting it i could not get it to look decent, brush marks, small blobs, the gloss that came with it, when it came into contact with old paint made it look slightly faded -

the nib leaves blobs, the brush - brush marks needs to be sprayed to fit the rest of the car.
i'd suggest a mobile scratch repair like ChipsAway, they quoted me £70 (with a discount cos of where i work) and thats for the bonnet, left front door panel, and both right door panels - normally its about £30 a panel.

you can get ok results with the tuch up pens, but you need to ve really carefull.
be prepared to rub it down with a cutting compound or T-cut as well.

    elbow grease required

Bad workman blames his tools and all that.

If you (well me I guess) use the nib you can do very delicate work with it.
Works very well on little stone chips too.

Thanks again for making me look a c*nt

np, the nib does work better than the brush, agreed, however if you have chips that arent deep, as in scratch marks the nib will leave a 'line' which will show up, no matter what you say, you cannot get the same finish as a spray.

you can make a massive difference just using red 't cut' on it. you will need to be a bit careful but the main of it will be reduced so it looks better than it was.

not a nice thing to have happen though

First thing is get some wax or primer in there before water gets the the metal as rust will bubble the repair..

Them kits dont contain all the stuff you need..

Prep and prime the scratch now fill the scratch with paint till it sits verry slightly proud leave it to dry/cure you may have to do this two or more times ..

    (Solid paint)
now with some 1200 w+d (smear some soap on to the w+d ) spray the paint/scratch with water and rub the w+d over the new paint untill it is smooth. now use some G3 cutting compound to blend in the old and new paint and to get the gloss back ...DONE

(If the car has met paint and a clear coat)
do above then clean with panal wipe then paint on your clear coat feather/overlaping it on to the old paint work then again leave it to dry/cure now again with some 1200 w+d spray the scratch with water and rub the w+d over the new paint untill it is smooth
then use some G3 cutting compound to blend in the old and new clear coats and to get the gloss back ...DONE

you can add a coloured polish/wax after that if you wish... the job should cost no more than= primer+paint+clear £5-12 panal wipe and w+d £3-4 cutting compound £5-7 and you will have lots left over for other jobs...

if there is glue left use some panal wipe (degreaser) and then t-cut or G10

Forgot to say if your car is over two years old then the paint on the car will not match the paint code for your car as it will have faded with the suns UV

So to get a good match you will have to take in your mirror or fuel cover and get them to match it from that..

You could do the whole car with g3 to get some colour back but it will only work for solids .

If you have a met/mica finish your stuck as all you will do is remove the clear coat with g3 and not touch the faded colour layer...

If its thorugh to the metal mate put some nail varnish on it. Its tough enough to put up with most weather conditions and protects from rust. Just mind when you do take to a garage dont forget to tell them it has nail varnish to stop from rusting. My opinion mate. Thats what i do untill my dad gets round to spraying
