hi every1 iam a bit of a novice at this i got a 1.4 mk3 astra 1991 i want to colour code my handels but do i have to take them off to paint them and also will the paint flake off.

depends on the tyep of handles, not familiar with how they fit on your car. Usually a better job can be done with them off though.

Paint wont flake if you do it right.

Use the right prep - thats the important bit.

Are the handles metal or ABS plastic?

they are abs plastic

take the off,
rub them down well,
plastic prime them,
lightely rub the primer down
then paint them
