    Thumbs down 1 x pothole = 2 x alloys fecked

Ok so I had my wheels on my car for about 8 hours...

Take this pothole (filled with water to disguise the terror beneath :

    7.5 inches deep

    33 inches long

    18 inches across

Take two nice Oxigin wheels (on the car less than 8 hours):

    and this is what happens:

    Back wheel:

    Front wheel:

Think I might have a case against the council? I've been asking around and that pothole has been there for weeks - I didn't know as I don't ever go down there anymore!

    Chris

I was going to call them but I've heard stories about them trying to get out of paying up - need to know the best way to ensure success!

They are pretty bad arent they - going to get the suspension looked over on monday - it looks ok but I want to be sure...

Bigfoot - I've got some showing that - its right outside a pub which is handy in terms of showing where it is...

It really didnt look like a massive hole - I thought it was a puddle

    Jesus that is bad!

    Really sorry about that mate.

As regards suspension damage, well it looks like the wheels took the maion impact. At worst a wishbone might be slightly out but these are much tougher than wheels. Get your tracking checked also

Gather as much evidence as you can for the council.

    nasty mate
our lass did the same when she had her coupe,we took pics of the pot holes and sent them to the highways dept.if you do this make sure you have the date somewhere in the pic cos the tw*ts filled them in before we could make a claim, but you can get your money back. "what is road tax for " to fix roads

Chavtastic - cheers, I actually bought two new front wishbones the day before cos I needed to change the bottom ball joints... bit worried about the back though cos that wheel is really fubarred... doh

Cally Jay exactly the point - road tax - you'd think it would be for fixing roads wouldn't you.

Its bloody dangerous a hole that size!

I did sucessfully get money out of the council for two wheels, two tyres and wheel alignment. Phone them up they will send you a claim form, fill it in send it back and wait. It took three months for me before getting the cheque as the bill now goes to the contractor that made the hole in the first place (passed via some sub contractors). Get some photos of it in the dry with the a general road locations, in the end they never wanted any photos although I did put in the claim form that I had some. Be paitent and phone to make sure they got the claim form after say a week and advise them that they should fill the hole before anymore unlucky people damage there cars.

Such a shame. Nice wheels as well. Hope you get some kind of feed back and an explanation why a road has potholes so big they damage cars.

I think I'm right in saying that the only way you'll be compensated is if the council are aware of the pothole and have done nothing about it. Best thing to do is to phone up and ask when that road was last inspected . The pothole can't have formed overnight so I'd say that if it has been inspected in the past 18 months then you should have a case.

    Hope that helps.

(I should be more help in the next couple of weeks cos I'm about to start work as a highways technician.)

Get on with the council about it. If you get nowhere with it, then go to your solicitor and see what they say. Usually a solicitor's letter will spur the council into coughing up.

but if they dont its even more expense to yourself... i gave up and noted it as one of the drawbacks of having a modded car

there is no way i would give up over that, whats £60 for a solicitors letter compared with the cost of 2 alloys, tyres and tracking etc.

there road has caused damage to your car due to there poor maintenance, they have got to be liable

just get as much photographic evidence as possible and get on to it first thing monday

make sure you keep copys of all corespondence and photos and don't let them try and fob you of

    Fook me, thats bad
Its the reason that i swerve all over the road avoiding potholes, but i have never seen a pothole as bad as that one
I would definently put a claim in.

Small claims court is only £30, I am currently suing my local housing association for damage done to my car in one of their car parks.........they had no disclaimer sign up.

I'm gonna get onto them on monday - guess time will tell. My Dad's best mate is a partner in a law firm so I'm sure he can get something written out for me

I normally avoid them! It was dark and I didnt register it as being a deep hole...

Mate thats pure bad luck sorry to see that

Id take as many fotos as poss fill up your cameras memory or roll of film measure it clearly so you can rub it in their face's.

show damaged areas of your car and write a very good letter to your local council.

Any evidence of how long you have had your wheels etc will be good so they cant dismiss it for being done else where.

Hope you get it sorted mate id be screwing if that happened to my wheels. But a pothole that big is just STOOPID
