Yeah but they're not exactly uncommon are they - most modern cars (BMWs etc) have pretty skinny profiles - but I know what you mean - kept thinking if I had my 205/55 15's on there it would've probably survived a hell of a lot better...

Arrr.. T'is no mere pot-hole. T'is an alloy eatin' kasam!
This is 100% correct. I know about this first hand. A good tip would be to get someone else to report it before you phone up and claim. You know that the council are aware of it when the pot hole is painted around. They are sneaky f*uckers, so don't rush into it without covering your ar5e from all angles, otherwise you're just get shafted.Originally Posted by Steve Flatley

i had a tyre split from pothole damage, i took pics of the damage, and of the pothole, and that the pothole was in main flow of vehicle tracks meaning it was almost unavoidable with traffic on the road, i had a printout for a new tyre showing cost and that it needed replacing due to pothole damage as the reason, i sent letter to council covering pics and a explaination of each picture as well as photocopy of invoice and asking who i needed to contact to make an insurance claim for damage to my items as i needed to let my insurers know who to contact...they offered to reimburse it by cheque form if i was to let this settle my claim, which i did and they did too....also filled the hole in etc lol....i described to them the location of the hole etc(road numbers...u name it)
I called the CAB today and got some advice from them - then called the council - spoke to a really nice woman who gave me the address to send a letter to, and what to put in it... so I'm just writing it now
We'll see how it goes lol
what did the CAB say?do they think you will get payed out for the damage to your wheels?
Well.. when I say I got advice from them, what I mean is, they gave me a phone number lmao - they didn't know much about what happens.
The woman at the highways dept gave the impression it was more a matter of time than anything - going to call them today to find out how long it will take as the person who deals with it was off sick yesterday.
OK I have found out that it is going to take four months (FOUR MONTHS!!!!) before I even get a decision out of them...
They "allow" themselves THREE WEEKS to decide which department in the council should be dealing with it lmao
Gotta love Government Red Tape Bureaucracies....
That's a Claim!!

The thing that I can't abide is - what if they were my only set of wheels, and I couldn't afford to replace them?
Gaylords
you can't afford to replace them, and have been taking taxis/hiring a car/getting lifts etc and will be including these out of pocket expenses in your claim![]()
once you find out which dept, get a name, make that person your point of contact and politely chase it up a few times a week, maybe pop down to their office with a wheel on each arm so they can see it in person, and offer to leave the wheels next to their desk if it helps process it![]()
Three months it took for me, steelies until then.
Vauxhallless
hehehe not a bad idea![]()
