    Tinting laws

    which is correct?

    http://www.4youngdrivers.co.uk/pages...ow-tinting.asp

    OR

You may tint your front windows but you must have at least 75% of light coming thru.

Some people firmly believe that you cannot tint past your B pillar and some say that its the amaount of light which makes it legal or illegal.

    So what's it to be?

Well a cav has a standard light transparacy of 70% through front windows so i think you are alowed 63%transparancy so 7% worth of tint. I think. Not worth the tint really. But the window does say minimum 70% transparancy. So could in fact be 80% so you could get 17% of tint. Can someone find out how much light in % must pass through the front windows?? Please.. . All my thoughts like..

I think its a load of sh*t. I am possitive as long as your window lets through a certain percentage of light then its legal. But the police need to test your windows for transparancy and i bet not all police have this equipment and dont actually know the exact law consernaing it so if not mega dark then i think most coppers would let you away. I never had any trouble and mines are illegal. Just illegal though..

Well its is deff stupid anyway to say "NO you cant tint your front windows BUT the rears can be as dark as you like"

If im gonna get tints i would only get like 10 - 15% black i.e. lets in 85 - 90% light.

Still want the girls to see my mug

Its off to get tints we go........

If your tints say 15%transparancy then you need to take that number off the number of transaparancy from your cars window. Cav is bout 70% so 15 tint will give you a transparancy of bout 55%. Illegal. You see the mumbo jumbo? Some police dont understand this. No bloody wonder. I just stick on 10% transparancy onto front glass. Looks legal. Its all a load of p**s take if you ask me.

yes very true but im gettin em for my Nova i.e No Tints on standard windows. The light that come thru into the Nova is brighter then it actually is outside the car lmao

As they got no tints then 85 - 90% transparency is well within the limit.

    Cheers

You checked the bottom of your windows? Glass never lets 100% of light through. Not that iv noticed. I hate the bloody law on tints. But on a safety side its good. But i think they are takin it a bit too far..

I totally agree on the fact that some ppl go to the extreme and is very dark and that is a bit OTT. And the law deff is worth it in that case but light tints i mean small percentage I see no problems.

Even buses around my area have tints on em all the windows and there is plenty of light coming in and I can see everything outside.

I havent really noticed any quotes on my Nova windows. But I will have a good look and buy suitable tints.

I know that the XEV Cav has 70% written on it same goes for my bros SEH.

No, It is not legal to apply an aftermarket tint forwards of the B pillar. Light transmission does not come into it.

Tinted glass must allow 75% light transmission in new vehicles and 70% in older vehicles.

i have been stopped and got a prohibition order for my fronts and i tell u,, i had smoked tints which were very easy to see through both ways and it tested at 34%, of light getting through so had to remove them,, which left the standard calibra glass,, still only let through about 80% so i am told that i could not apply any tint now,, not even light smoke so any1 looking to tint there drop glass will be making it illegal

U still need to see out your rear windscreen dont you?

And the excuses they come up with for no being able to have them.

you don't need to actuatly see out of your rear screen though do you as you have two perfectly good mirrors to use.
what about vans and wagons that have no rear view mirror and you have to rely on the door mirrors
having said that i still use the rear view mirror when i'm in the car
also not a fan of tints unless they are very light and not really noticable

Must say i on the other hand like tints. i like my privisy in the car. like to hide whats inside too. Tints also help hold the glass together after the windows get smashed. Better for gettin rid of the mess. I like the privisy. and wee bit style in them too.

yer they changed the law last year to state that although your allowed 75% tint it cant be in the form of a film, it MUST be part of the glass itself

so go find yourself some 70% smoked perspex and make some front windows from that

I am sure you tint loving guys could perhaphs one day be able to choose the level of your tint with a flick of a knob, using the liquid Crystal technology, you could alter the tint level by just twiddling with a knob, and when the cops stop you you could just turn that knob down a bit and when the cops measure the light obscuration level they will be surprised to note a low reading of obscuration and once they dissapear you could turn the knob on again! And during night journey you could turn the knob right down to get clear vision with minimum obscuration.
