I just slid mine between the parcel shelf and the rear seat and secured them. Look ok.

    "Look okay .." ... ?

But do they actually work, ie: are they secured strong enough to stop a apssengers head from flying backwards?

TBH i would have thought you would be able to. My 1990 Nova GTE has holes in the frame of the seat for the headrest holder things. Just feel across the top of the back seat and you should feel some holes approx. 1.5" wide and headrest width apart.

Just grabbed these pics of the nova rear bench. We have stripped the seat for a re-trim but you can see the 2 larger holes are where the bracket holder things would go:

And they are exactly the right width for a headrest:

Yeah, but they dont move. Plus they make the interior look a bit smarter.

I did that at first, but they move left and right and look a mess. They just don't look right

I take it yours was a GTE, is the rear bench on yours one piece? I heard something that only the split rear seats have the holes..

Whils't the top holes for the plastic guides are there, the "U" shaped retainer to hold the bottom end of the guides ISN'T there, even the Vauxhall TIS tells you it can't be done, it says you have to replace the seat back.

all of my novas got the rear headrest treatment lol the gte, the sr the other sr and the SR lookalike, as a general rule i think its only split folding rear seats that take them, my corsa now has a brace of 3 in the back looks pretty classy and they do work!!! also if u just slot in ur headrests between parcel shelf n brake harshly sometimes they come out

just on this topic, does any1 know if a corsa B (pre V grille model) will have the holes for the rear head rests?? just wondering so I can get a corsa with a rear seat that will take them.

also have a mk3 97 R 1.6 LS astra, with 60/40 split seats, will it have the holes for RHRs??

    cheers.
