They look decent on that photochop, but in reality, those MK4 rims are horrid.
Best way to stop arches going is to keep them clean, more so on the inside lip. When mud collects there it acts like a nice big sponge retaining water and causing condensation inside the two skins.
Keep them clean and the lips waxed. Should be fine then. In the summer, take the rear inside panels out and inject the inner arches with waxoil.
