    powder coating wheels

im wanting to get me wheels powder coated white, and i can get em done cheap from a m8s dad who does powder coating, the only problem being, that he dont refurb the wheels, and they need a little touching up round the rim and some scuffs sorted

first off what would be best to use to repair the rims? i heard to use chemical metal for the rim as its more robust than something like P38, although could i use P38 aswell, to smooth the spokes?

secondly, i dont really know whats involved in powder coating, but, would these two repair methods withstand the powder coating process?

    any info would be great

    cheers

When I restored my brothers 205 GTi alloys I sandblasted them myself to get all the crap off them. It took a lot of the kerb damage off. But I went over small scuffs that were left with a die grinder and smoothed them all out. For larger bits I used Chemical Metal then smoothed them over. Although I didnt get them powder coated, I just painted them.

Personally I wouldnt use P38 it will probably crack after a while. I'm not sure if it can withstand powder coating either. The place will probably vapour dip or at least use some pretty powerfull detergents your wheels first to remove a lot of dirt and dust. I know that Chemical Metal can withstand the powder coating process and its only about 3 quid a tube.

I'm not sure if filler will work with powder coating as it uses an electro-static charge so it might have to be metallic. Best to check.

Exactly the same as a 2-pack filler.
