half an inch width diffence, don't think it'll make much difference either way, I've got 7.5 x 17's on my nova at the moment, can't complain, I only have them on while I wanna make it look a bit better, usally have 7.5 x 15's on handle so much better.
7 1/2 " you shouldn't fit less than 205 profile tyres, so bear that in mind.
Even 205s give naff all rim protection.

tiss true I forgot to mention I've got 205/45 on the 15's and 215/35 on the 17's
Stick to 7 x 17 ET45 and 205/40/17 tyres for best fit and less chance of rubbing
Yep, 1/2" is quite a difference when 7's generally just go on with a few mm spare clearance!

8" rim is only 203mm wide.
It's the minimum tyre width you can fit that causes the problems, not the rim itself.

No, rim width has a lot to do with clearance too, unless you want the rim to be sat on the shocks?
7.5" wheel with 195's on would most likely foul bodywork.
