    Question Tramlining

What does it mean when someone refers to tramlining in relation to wider variety tyres?

    Re: Tramlining

when it catches un-evenes(sp?) in the road-a normal tyre wouldn't follow that un-evenes as it has a high profile and it is not wide but a wide wheel/tyre will follow that - say- a large crack in the road-i know that sounds pretty crap as an explanation but the bit that's important is that every now and then your steering will go where you dont want it to lmao - usually on uneven or country roads

low offsets or wide tyres will follow the contour of the road as above.

215s on a GTE or Cav/Astra3 are quite bad for it.

    Re: Tramlining

To understand why tramlining is called tramlining, you really have to be over 50 or live in such as Blackpool or Greater Manchester which still have trams.

As previously said, it's when the wheels of your car follow the parallel ruts in the road caused by thousands of cars' wheels all wearing down exactly the same parts of the tarmac.

To avoid it completely, buy a Reliant Robin. Then the only thing you'll get p!ssed off with is your head ricocheting of the roof every time you run over a man-hole.

EDIT: My wife tells me I can't call them man-holes any more, it's sexist: they're Sewer Inspection Covers.

Jesus, look at the state of the world we live in at the moment: we don't even know whether or not in twelve months time we'll still be here or whether terrorists will have flattened our once-great country, but yet people like my wife still get annoyed by gendered-nouns.
