Right, I am fed up with my electric ariel - and I want to fit a bee sting instead.
I want to just replace the existing ariel tho, ie take out the current mast and fit a beesting in its place, in the same location.
Looking at the black ariel base, it does not seem to have a thread so how would I go about doing this?
And I cant be arsed to change the location of it to the roof- too much work im afraid.
Any one done this or seen it done? Did a search but no joy.
Looks like what Ill have to do is find a beesting (stubby like design) that has the right diameter of thread that will slot inside the original black plastic base and then somehow (with the use of superglue..?) fix it in there so is permanent,
also, what are the differences in reception with the standard ariel and beesting?
well Ive read that you have to remove the headlining, drill a hole in the right place (so as to miss a supporting strut that runs across) and getting the headlining back in is a b!tch apparently. also smoothing the hole which is quite big will be a bit of a nightmare to get perfect too as its a funny shape and curved. Im surprised no one has done this tho- cuz the original HUGE mast is well ugly when up
ps thanx for replying though m8, it seems no one ever reads threads in styling (or at least not compared to other sections- may put in mech&elec)
Will that not look a bit odd? I mean which way is the angle of the bee-sting gonna go? Forwards, backwards, sideways May have missed ur point here
I fitted 1 to the roof position very easily. Haven't got round to removing the old aerial base yet. I just filed down the original aerial mast so all u see is the rubber boot.
its going to look like a large radio control car with that aerial sticking out of the side. either fill the hole and put a roof aerial on, or put a standard one back on
The stubby bee sting should sit straight up, ie vertical like the standard one, and be about a foot and a half shorter than the existing one. Gotta be better than the standard jobby, which DOES look like a large rc car!
genterz- how easy was it to route the ariel wire to the roof, and to remove the headlining/put it back? have you got a close up pic. Did you just use a nut on the beesting ariel thread to secure it to roof?
ta. I know the gsi's had roof ariels- I doubt there is any indication in non gsi's where the hole should be drilled through roof??
I'm thinking of doing this to mine, as my electric aerial when fully extended is way too long (taken me 7 mths to notice this!!) Ideally, i just want a subtle aerial, non electrical that can fit in the original location.
I have an short alu bee sting aerial that replaces the aerial on a gsi beesting, will this fit my wing ariel mount as the original ariel rusted and snapped so now i can't get any radio signal. I ain't bothered if i can just put the ariel in the boot as long as i can get a radio reception.
I bought the aerial planning to fit a bee-sting on my roof, but just ain't got the time, and don't fancy messing with the head lining etc.
