Drivers door removal on 3door mk1 nova

Hey guys, well.. ive removed the door card, and the door strap that limits the travel, and also the plastic door pin covers, but what is the best way to remove the actual pins themselves?

They have been soaking in wd-40 overnight! but still dont seem to want to shift.. is there an 'ideal' tool to do the job?

I have a gas welding torch, so could apply some heat to it if required..

    any gen?

    thanks, andrew

Yes, you can buy the special tool, they are about £10 i think, but half the time you snap or bend the removal pins when trying to hit them out!! Try using some heavy duty pliers and grab the pin with them then hit it with a big hammer in the direction for removal!! Its always worked for me that way!! DONT USE YOUR BEST PLIERS YOU MAY F**K THEM!!

You can get a door pin puller kit from most car accessory shops. It's basically a skinny nut and bolt that you put through the pin and then you use a forked bar (included in the kit) and a hammer to pull the skinny bolt through the hinge pivot puling the pin along with it.
If there's a bit of the pin sticking out of the hinge you can give it a sharp tap first to start it off but be carefull not to mushroom it.
The Novas are all gone now, just the Vectra estate left!

The pins have small flanges on them, it looks like the end has been tap over all the way round to stop it going straight through the hole, thats the end that needs moved away from the hinge!! Its usually the top one down and the bottom one up!!

oh, one more thing, do you know what diameter the door pins are? i can pick up a door pin removal tool in the next couple of days if the above methods dont work, would they be 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, something inbetween?

    cheers, andrew

When you do it take the wing off to do it with door closed its soooo much easier.

When you buy the door pin removal tool you get either two or three different diameter pins to try through, use the one thats the closest fit inside the door pin!! Oh, and put a rag or padded glove on your hand as the shock of the hammer hitting the bar goes straight through your hand and up ya arm!
