    Flooded Footwell

Just got myself an Astra GLS J reg and the passenger footwell gets wet when it rains, tried a few things to fix it but still getting wet, heard sommit about pollen filters not being fitted properly.

Anyone have any ideas or know how to sort this?

    Cheers

Already ripped a section of soundproofing out to dry it out and try and see where the waters coming from, seems to be from somewhere behind the center console

Look for a drain pipe too in the engine bay.

They get blocked and over flow the water into the car

sit in the car and get someone to spray a hose pipe around doors and arond the top of the bonnet etc to find out where abouts the waters comeing in.

    Re: Flooded Footwell

right well i slapped some cling film under the pollen filter put the car back together and sprayed it with a hose for ages, no water came rushing in much to my surprise.

Checked and the pollen filter is soaked and the film caught water.

Gonna have to seal the windscreen to the plastic surround as thats where the waters coming through

    Re: Flooded Footwell

    Mine had an identical leak

As far as i can tell the drain pipe was blocked (black rubber 'sock' like item hanging in the engine bay, middle of bulkhead) get ya fingers in there and clean out any muck etc.

also remove the plastic trim that covers the pollen filter area and check for any obvious holes etc (someone might have fed new wires through for stereo equipment etc etc) I found one and sorted it with some good old trsuty silicone sealent! Is ther anything silicon CANT fix!!! lmao )

leaks are notoriously difficult to find, its more a trial and error and eliminating possibilities, eventually you will rectify it mate

    Re: Flooded Footwell

I would have thought that a sunroof leak would be very apparent, ie the roof lining would be very wet and there would be visible dripping and staining

don't completely rule it out, but I am adamant this wouldn't be the casue of your leak

also, check that there are grommets present at all places where any cables, wires etc pass through the bulkhead, as if one is missing its amazing how much water can seep through over time. The back of my sound deadening under the carpet was sodden days after any rain, thus indicating a more gradual ingress of water rather a sudden leak which leads me to think it was one of or both of the problems i explained about mine earlier

Its usually the black rubber hanging down from the bulkhead.Take it off and clean it regular.
It gets clogged up,so the water/rain as nowhere to go,except into the cabin.

Yeah the rubber bulkhead drainage thing was the casue of my problems in my old Calibra.

if it is the sunroof, you'll need to get the headlining out, unbolt the sunroof from the roof and pull of the drainage tubes at each corner. the best way to unblock these I found was to drive to a petrol station and get the high pressure air line and blast through each tube. clears it all out a treat

yer iv cleared the black sock rubber thing out and all the crap from the drain ways in the engine bay, once iv sealed the screen against the plastic bit with the wipers it should be the end of mr leak, however if it still leaks it will be the sunroof, the sunroof tilts but wont slide as it jams after dropping ready to slide. also doesnt seem quite aligned as its higher at the front than the back when closed, only by 1mm or less.

    Cheers

Haynes manual states a 1mm deviation from perfectly flat is normal.
Mine was seized up too mate, turned out it was the interface unit that sites between the winding arm and the 'cogs' in the roof itself.
I have just fitted an electric conversion and have the new interface part spare (got it from the scrappies 1 week b4 converting to electric mechanism, how impatient am I !!!) if you want it?? this was the cause of mine not working, plus the old owner obviously didnt use it much so after a good rubbing of grease and oil on the winding cogs and all the runners etc it is smooth as anything now.

PM me if you want the part mate

had the same prob. water collects around blower motor, then runs down the vents and under the carpet. as said previously clean out drain tube and all will be well. as its been wet tho lift the fron carpets rite up and check seam in front floorpan for rust. mine went there quite badly after the leak
