Question GSi bumper brackets and stuff...

right, finally gonna fit this ******* thing this weekend weather permitting.

which way round do the brackets bolt onto the carrier bar?? there's 2 square holes and one round hole on each. is it round at the top or the bottom? and the fixing bolts, do they go nearer the edges of the bumper, or the other way round - so they are further inwards???

    cheers

Real work, the one that pays the bills has overtaken me, we make mince pies! so you can imagine how busy we are. Went to work at 1:30pm yesterday and got home at 12:30am this morning.

So Lots of red shiney gsi parts sitting here in the garage, bonnet is on but thats all

I have another Astra CD which I am converting from 18xe to 20xe and I have been concentrating on that when I have the time.

Just the rad, hoses and fluids to go, oh and the ecu loom to fit.

The loom is going to be a pig as the cables that go out from by the bonnet pull to the door electrics have a BIG grommet to seal to the inner wing panel and its come out of the wing so looks like splash shield off, wing off to be able to get it back in place before there is room for the ecu loom to go back in place.

That pic was before I fitted the manifold.

I got some 15" fan style gsi wheels yesterday and another gsi body kit complete inc bonnet, less the skirts which are no good to me as mine are both 5 door cars so if I dont start fitting some of this stuff soon I will run out of room!!

    Mike.

wow, looks like you're gonna be busy! (both at work and on the cars!)

I just went out to fit my front bumper and i've now discovered that it isn't even the right bloody size! on one side it fits fine, but the other side is about an inch too long! i don't have a camera but i did a crappy paint drawing:

i'm definately gonna have words with vpsc now every step of the way they have caused me no end of grief

Slacken off the 2 main bumper mounting bolts and jiggle the bumper about to get it central so the gaps the same both sides, then pull the ends in to screw to the wings. They didnt make differing size gsi bumpers matey so it has to fit.

    Good luck.

Get a cheap digi camera too they are worth a 1000 hand drawings. I wouldnt be without mine.
Try Jessops used equipment, nice basic Olympus will cost you around £40.

i'm thinking they've ripped me off with a bad copy

i haven't even put the nuts on the main bolts and that's how it sits. It won't move any further into the middle.

i'm gonna have to put the old one back on (for the third bloody time ) i was meant to be at a band practice at 11.30

any ideas if vpsc will swap it for a proper genuine bumper? and refund the cost of spraying this one?

When you fitted the end irons did you use the correct vx bolts as if you didnt then the bolt heads could be pushing against the bumper behind the main central support bar and forcing the bumper out of line if you see what I mean.

right, the bolts are genuine GM items, everything else appears not to be

i can see no other way of fitting it on. looking at your pic:

mine doesn't have the hole in the carrier bar for the third bolt. it has the 2 square ones, and the third hole is on the brackets, just not the bar.

    well, maybe not after all.....

i bolted them on the correct way round and tried fitting it. and it still won't fit properly. it is marginly better but still obviously not going to work. the gap on one side is ridiculous and on the other side it doesn't reach the holes under the arch properly by miles. and the only way i can adjust it is in the direction that makes it even worse!

    grrrrrrrr!!
