    Turbo matt's car

Well after what happened today i am going to start a thread in the members SW region as to keep things more sensible.

Matt called me today on my home form the meal the conversion was short but to the point.

"mike my car , sommit is wrong here oil all on the engine and smoking and missfiring"

    matt said.
So having told him i would be there shortly i hung up and arrived at the scene of crime which i might add after showing up an Audi 80 with the audi sport badge on and sport kit! hehehe

Anyway get's there and found the breather hose from the rocker cover to the turbo intake split off the rocker pouring oil out. fixed it then fired it up, missing bad and blue smoking... ..hhhmmm things more sinister than i had hoped.

    took the plugs out

    1ok 2DOH! 3not good 4ok

    this is number 2 :

so towed matt's car home to my place after going to a tool shop for a tow rope when the guy said he didn't have any, so i asked anywhere i could get one, "nah there illegal mate only allowed a towbar now"
    ok got any of them?

    "oh yeah."

tommy tanker sprung to mind at this point!

so gets towing matt's car to mine from South Brent, quite a way too! suprised a few car drivers thou!!!
    lmao

cav barely even noticed it behind it.

tonight i used our Borescope and have found that number 2 has a large part missing - melted away and number 3 is so full of oil i cant see a thing!

will post up the progress as it happens.

Matt we all feel for ya buddy sod that- but like i keep saying things will come out better!

    Yeah serious bummer.
So its obviously detonantion but any ideas whats caused it to run so lean?
    1/4 mile 8.8seconds@ 160mph.....on a motorcycle.

This being off allowed alot of unmetered air into the turbo causing it to run so lean, detonation or pinking matt knows what it sounds like and said he didn't hear any.
Matt's car has always run too hot in the red when flat out, we where aware something was wrong all be it a headgasket/ water pump/ thermostat but it didn't help today somewhat a contributary factor

Mike, before I rebuilt mine that pipe split quite a few times, pressumably because I had really low compression on one cylinder causing a lot of blow by and pressure in that pipe. Are you sure its not split that pipe because of the massive blow by a holed piston would give?

Blue what are you up to? one birdy tells me you now have a rover 214 and are scrappin the cav?

if i can get matt's block stripped prior to sat which you know me is quite likely to be done tomorrow night then i may well tackle your cav rack in work sat now the farm is as good as gone.

    Re: Turbo matt's car

Mike- i am the shameful owner of a 214 lmao- hey it's a 16valve no less- tan interior too lmao lmao lmao

Just needed a sh itter until i get the cav back on the road- was thinking of breaking her what with the impending rebuild also, but haven't got the heart, and can't sell her as she owes me about 3k lmao lmao So she's parked up in the carpark looking sorry for herself

If we can get the rack done at least before the tax expires (end of month) that'd be cool

    Re: Turbo matt's car

Well got home form work tonight and got going on matts cav, took the head off and found a sorry state,
Block is pretty much goosed and probably beyond repair.
Oly piston 2 had melted so i am thinking the oil in 3 was from the head gasket passing maybe, anyway his best and cheapest option is a replacement engine.

    head off

    bad bore!

you dont want me to say!!!! mate i think we both know that much tourqe so high is not for std rods.

matts car has been overheating for sometime now, he never got round to checking it out and unfortunatly has paid the highest price.
by the looks of it only number 2 has been affected, i may get the injector tested yet to find why it went like it did.
i had difficulty in getting it to boost over 12 psi without pinking due to the high temps he had.

this all happened at 130 whilst against a civic type R and was loosing too
