Reconsidering my postion as Reg' Coord

Now after the appauling ongoings after this weekends rolling road day at Powerstation i have decided to begin to have some serious thoughts about this co ordinating postion.
I feel very annoyed that i had gone to the trouble of finding a location, making numerous calls to the company, following and updating the thread and so on only for people not to make an attendance when they say they will,
I felt hugely embarrassed on the day that only 8 people had thier cars run out of the dozen at least who said they wanted to run.

My attitude is becoming if members cant be bothered then why should I ???

I will be continuing in my efforts till the end of the year at least but in the meantime if things dont begin to improve - they will get a whole lot worse.

    Rant over.

    mike

Not being funny but the people that didn't turn up are hardly SW region regulars, if in our region at all, so dont feel the SW region is letting you down.

There was no way I was going all that way for a RR day, when I could have the same done locally for a £10 less, as I am schedualled to at Alan Jefferies in December. Having 2 RR meets so close together cant have helped either.

I think it was just too far for people as far south as us.

Miles fair point hence why you didn't want to go.
BUT i was approached to do this after the SW / W one failed to happen, its not just this one thing miles but in general this is not the first time i feel i have tried to hard.
I have not said the SW region is letting me down at all.

Re: Reconsidering my postion as Reg' Coord

Mike you do a great Job as coordinator and the region wouldn't half as good without you, so don't let all this crap get you down!
It always the same when ever someone tries to organise something you always get a load of people say they'll go and only to let you down on the day!Its either human nature or they're just prats, one or the other! lmao
I'd like to go to more meets/events but with my shift pattern and distance to travel its difficult but hopefully make it along to a meet soon
    All the best Mike

    cheers

Re: Reconsidering my postion as Reg' Coord

I think you do a great job Mike, it wasnt any SW members who let you down on the day although I can understand why you'd be so disapointed. If I was in your shows I would be firing of PM's to those who didnt show.

Just recently numbers have been down at meets, I dont really know why as it seems fewer and fewer people have the inclination to go to the meet. I still throughly enjoy the meets and so on, my names always among the first on any list.

    dont quit mate

Thanks for the support everyone, just find it all the more difficult to get online with out causing problems at home also repair and modify everyones cars and then to organise events too! then to be let down! makes me mad.

like i said i will be sticking it out till end of year.

So, why do you think that is ?

Another club taking people away ?

    A problem with migweb ?

What can be done to make it better ?

I haven't been a member of Mig for long and nor have i been to any of the monthly meetings, many reasons, forgetfulness is the main one

But the two events i have been to have been enjoyable and well organised, i put a lot of that down to Mike, in addition i have always been made to feel welcome by everyone.

I have helped run car clubs in the past and there are times when it seems a thankless task, but i think the majority of people are behind you and would be sad to see you stand down.

The clubs stagnating, theres nothing new happening and the club's lacking direction, its just sitting here in its own juices...
I dont know if theres another club taking members away altho it wouldnt suprise me if theres nothing here worth staying for and other clubs offer more...
As for making it better I have PM'd my thoughts on the situation to Mr Williams, its upto him to take that to the other Admins and go from there, I've done my bit.

I joined the VSCC a while ago. And admitedly, it's £30 for national membership plus extra for the regional membership.
BUT. I got 2 free runs at Combe for that. So it made me £10.
The club magazine came through as and when it should. And it was excellent!
I haven't seen a MIG MAG for probably 9 months!!

Mig is Stagnating. Because of the massive online membership, it's not really going anywhere as a car club! Which is exactly what I joined a few years ago (a car club that is).

Theres too many people now. It's an online community more than a car club. And unfortunatley, most of the new members appear to be knobs... Present company accepted. The "nova" elemnet used to be a minority. I don't think it is anymore.
MIG used to be about hardcore VX fans who were dedicated and trustworthy. I don't think I can say that about MIG anymore.

Admitedly, I don't really own a performance Vauxhall anymore but I won't be renewing my membership.
I will stay in touch with the friends I have made though. Because they're from the old days and are "dedicated and trustworthy".
    I have become comfortably numb....

not to sure if i agree with some of the comments above, when you look at other regions monthly mig meet pics there allways seems to be a good turn out and they allways look as if they are having a good laff etc etc. maybe we as members of the sw reigon should take some blame, pull our fingers out and show some support for mike by turning out in force at the next meet and see if we can kick start things off again!

the atmosphere has gone. bottom line.everyone buggered of to bed at PVS, me and CraigGreen ended up wandering around alone.

I dunno why when the club seems to be growing our reigon is shrinking seemingly.

I for one have missed 1 event this year, Trax, I only missed that because my car was off the road with a slipped cam-belt, I had a ticket and everything

To be honest people as much support from the members wont help things, its the club itself that needs to review things, like people have said doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and appreciation is only coming from the one person who with his help and inputs the club wouldn't be mig... ..Tom williams that is.

Re: Reconsidering my postion as Reg' Coord

The Central region has gone from having 15-10 cars at our meets to just 3 at the last one. We had a group of friends that would meet once a month but over the past year or so a lot of them have moved onto other things and nobody new has taken their place. Despite me having near on 50 members i have contacted all of them about the shows/meets but got 2 responses. Theres only so much you can to get people to drive for an hr or more to meet people they dont know.

To me the website part of the club gives Mig a bad name, the technical info etc is excellent but how many times do you see threads slating companies etc and slagging off people and their cars. This usually is non club members doing it but MIGweb/MIGclub is what people and so the club itself is tarred with the same brush.

Re: Reconsidering my postion as Reg' Coord

    Mike;

Ive just joined again & hope to see everyone again soon.

I am of the opinion that MIG membership itself does not offer much.. Other than Discounted show passes etc, its just a sticker & keyring.

The regional meets were only a meet up at a pub. This would be fine if I was a member of the 'Pubs & Inns assoc' or whatever, but as a driver's club perhaps the meets should be alternated between pub meets & other varying locations. (sorry no suggestions) that might be of interest to driving enthusiasts.

Hope you accept this as constructive criticism. I think you do a sterling job

Mike, ive always thought you did a great job, so id be in the "sorry to see you go" group of people personally, but obviously its your choice and if its only bringing you aggro and no pleasure doing it then its fair enough if you decide not to do it anymore.
