| does anyone do apprentiships ? allritey then here goes i have applied for numerous jobs in the motor industry from selling cars to fixing them and keep getting told sod off basically. Ive applied for a few apprenticeship's but i have been unsuccessfull due to more experienced people getting in before me. What i was wondering is there anyone in my local area that would take me on as an apprentice, sales or whatever coz i need a job (nothing rude please im being serious) and if i dont get an apprenticeship before december ill be classed as too old! I cant afford to give up work and go to college full time. if anyone could help me that would be greatly appreciated as its something im really keen and intrested in i just need some help getting my feet on the ladder cheers anyway guys have a nice day

the fact is the motor trade is such a male orientated world especially on the shop floor all that testosterone floating about could turn you into a heshe |

| personally it doesn't bother me working in a male environment at least ill have someone to talk playstations cars and football with !!!! ReMIT so Google says is now called Carter and Carter and i have applied with them and it says on the letter that they will contact me when a suitable position becomes available so we shall see it says if you dont hear in two months to give them a call but when i showed you the letter i put it in my pocket and it went thru the wash so i cant see the date on it can you remember ?????? |

We do motor vehicle courses and things at the college I work at. In fact, the workshop they use is amazing!

| well ive looked on the college website and spoke to the admissions and the apprentiships people there. I can enroll on a full time mechanics course but i cannot afford to give up my night job and do a full time course at the same time with two small kids. They have offered me a part time course in basic mechanics its a 10 week course for £140 on a weds evening from 6pm till 8pm just waiting for the info to come in the post and i will apply! if it helps ill do it im willing to learn anything! i left school with no qualifications and bumming around popping out sprogs and making popcorn really doesnt set you up for life but hopefully with sheer determination and a tiny tad of luck i might get somewere and if all else fails theres allways a sex change |

Will the company you work for at the moment not fund your course for you? Or let you go on day release or something? |

| HELL NO!!! at the moment i work at a cinema working nights and its pants!!! they dont give two hoots about their staff just aslong as they turn up! ive asked them if they would consider doing some sort of nvq training even in customer service and they said no!!! i really hate it there and only doing it for the sheer fact that they dont pay me enough to go full time and get childcare and the people who work there (apart from the management coz they think we are skanky freaks of nature that just fell off the bottom of their shoe) and as i have been told many times from the great ones above" we are all replaceable if your not happy leave theres lots more people who would do the job and not cause a fuss"
PS: vauxhall have just called and after a week they have fixed my astra!!!! im just petrified about calling them back to ask how much !!! |

| Im kinda in the same boat, im 23 and cant get an apprenticeship (too old lol) for vehicle body repair, so im waiting to hear from mid-kent college as im on there reserve list.
Although im going for a 'full-time' course thats still only 3days a week so im still gonna keep my part time job for now.
Remit were going a couple of years back when I applied but their courses didnt seem as good as college.
i work for sainsburys and if you lick a bit of arse you can get loads of training in customer service or what ever, maybe a change of job/company?
Steve.

| not to piss on your chips, but ive just come out my time as a qualified mechanical engineer for kelloggs, 2years onc, 2 years hnc.
when i first applied for apprenticeships i was 16, just left skool, applied for like of bmw, painting/mechanics, scania trucks, castle cement, kelloggs, various engineering companies, shell, etc, i got into scania, nissan, kelloggs and castle cement.
not sure if benn said above, but i didnt go to nissan as id be a tea boy for 12months, scania trucks wasnt well paid, and between castle cement and kelloggs, i chose kelloggs, as they only take 2 apps. on a year 1 spark, 1 mech, very good apprenticeship scheme, will pay for any course you want to do if they think it will help you do your job etc. conditions alot cleaner as food production.
some of it may not help because of your age, and no offence but maybe becasue your a girl(runs n hides) im not being sexist, but could be a disadvantage. ive found with a lot of lads who are mechanics, they work on cars near enough everyday, so they cant be arsed with there own cars, may be wrong in some cases, but thats what me and otherm8s have noticed.
if dont mind me asking what did you do when you left skool? personally id of been on a college course when i left skool even if a nyt class if you had other things to do during the day, just to get some qualifications.
anything else you fancy doing besides a mechanic?? |

So much more to be had from a career, dont sell yourself short... if you can get into a mechanical engineering apprenticeship (not car mechanics) and get good grades etc then you could go to a manufacturer and do design or testing etc... sod changing tyres and exhausts and brake pads for a living.
Just my opinion.
Good luck with whatever you do aslong as your happy.... |
