    need some welding done

    hey guys,
just wondered if anyone on here was up for doing some welding for me? Got a hillman imp that i want to get finished off, i would love to learn and do the work myself but really would prefer to get it out and enjoy it for the summer(im still at school with exams coming up so dont really have the time to learn )

i need the rear arches cut out and replaced, sheet metal shaped and welded into the rear lower quarters, metal shaped and welded into the scuttle panel, a small plate on the sill, and a little bit of the box section the seat bolts to welded as it has cracked.

located in west lothian if anyone fancies coming round to give me a quote?

    cheers

I think the lack of response says it all chap. Perhaps best having a word with a couple of local classic car restorers or even just a garage who does general welding. I think welding of the nature will be a big job as a homer... hence maybe have to accept you'll need to book it in, which will require some element of leg work on your behalf I suspect.

What you really need is some old dude who been in the game for years but has maybe semi-retired or given up work but who'll happily plod awy and do it as a homer. Issue is, with panel work of this nature you really need somebody with an element of talent, not some YTS knob armed witha Mig welder. So, my first suggestion or accept the fact you'll need to enlist the help of a professional bodyshop/restorer in order to get a nice job done. Have you tried some of the classic car sites... maybe Pistonheads as they have a Scottish forum and a classic car forum, perhaps some chaps on there who could recommend somebody locally?

The person i had got my first quote from definitely seemed to know what he was talking about, and said he preferred making the panels himself, so should maybe just stump the £6/700 and get it over with. I hadn't thought about piston heads though, so i shall get a post up on there about it and see what is suggested. The first quote did include all the work needed along with being coated in zinc, so maybe like i say, just bite the bullet and do it.
Thanks for the help though, much appreciated
