    Nightmare today!!! bloody scottish roads!

Had the coupe away today gathering snap shots to send to dom at megs so after a few trips here n there looking for good spots the coupe decided to hit a pot hole coming over the glen bridge going past the racers?.. well it was a hell of a teeth clencher and a thought nothing more of it until i got home.
On inspection with the coupe being low its as if the rear tyre has hit the arch and split the arch from the back panel causing a split, and on the arch lip has bent the lip and split around a 5" crack right in the middle of the lip!... B**tarding scottish bloody roads, so had a rant and found out theres also one at the glen bridge traffic lights as well when coming into dunfermline Av got a right mind to pop into the council office with the bill when it gets fixed!!!.. as a result ive raised the rear around 5mm but its taken the look off the coupe a little.

sounds like your tyres are too big a profile. With the correct size you would just bottom out on the bump stop, and the wheel wouldnt touch anything in the arch...

Still not the point gaz, av been on a 500 mile trip to penrith/blackpool for the weekend and back and no problem at all until its down to the state of the roads so a cnt blame the car really! mates the same as he drives ferrari and the front bumper was taken clean off on a speed bump so would the car also be at fault there? in a way yes but if the speedbumps wernt so f**kin high it wouldnt have happened... for the fifers its jamies red ferraarrriii so youll know the one am talking about!
On the tyre subject though gaz av just changed back to 225/40/18s this week it was 215/30/18s it was running!

I'm not having a pop because i can understand your frustration however by your own admission your car is modified and lowered this has contributed to the damage surely as if it wasnt so low then the incident wouldnt have caused that damage to your car.
I dont see why the council will pay out due to these facts.

regarding the ferrarri driver having a similar incident thats claimable in my opinion prividing the car is in standard form.
I think you need to be aware that the council will do whatever they can to avoid paying and I believe you need to prove they were aware of the damaged road and that they were negligent.

Totaly understand and partly agree but not fully, however it doesnt justify the gaping hole in the road that is simply avoidable!, i understand though and the only bonus i have is the road repair has been noted by others and there has been three other incidents recorded!

Re: Nightmare today!!! bloody scottish roads!

I hope you have recorded all the others and mentioned them in your letter to the council.
fingers crossed for you but I think your in for a long wait...

incidentally many years ago in an mk2 sri 130 someone overtook me on a dual carriageway that was marked down to 30mph, this was because the workers had left it with a loose type 1 topper before tarring i assume. some guy roared past and threw stones all over the front of the car which cracked my windscreen.
the council chose to not even reply to my letters and when i called said it was with their insurers, i never heard a thing and just got fed up which i suspect was their tactic.

Re: Nightmare today!!! bloody scottish roads!

Understandable, for the record and i know your not saying i was but i dnt drive about wreckless and to be honest if there was any incidents involved with my driving it would be someone going into the arse of the coupe as am one of thoses 2mph over speed bumps, its just been one of thoses things!, the insurance for the council has been done and photos ect have been passed and the guy came out to look at it and asked for the three quotes so theyve went with the cheapest,to my disliking, but as said thats prob the last i will hear but you never know, as long as they fix the road as wouldnt like it happening to anyone else. As with the ferrari i cnt say how much he got! but it got fixed privately!

Re: Nightmare today!!! bloody scottish roads!

To grimp it off its the state of the roads, everywhere in scotland is probably the same nomatter if your cars lowered or not, and mines has been raised alot more than it was 3 month ago!.. but when we took a trip down to penrith and all the way to blackpool the roads were perfect, circuit material and it was hillarious as the coupe was smooth as a baby arse all weekend and when we hit the welcome to scotland sign the first thing we rattled into was a f**king pothole on a three lane motorway... quite simply the state of the roads are shocking!

am I the only one here that would rather have the council put the money into repairing the roads instead of fixing a damage caused by my own lowass suspension thus depriving the roads of repairs desperatley needed.

don't get me wrong if it were a buckle or a burst then yeah they should pay but bodywork damage due to a modification is something totally different.

225/40/18s will be worse regarding the car (but will give the alloy a bit more cushion), and will probably catch the arch lip (just below the rub strip) and pull it out, seen it alot on the coupe's with 18" and 40+ profile tyres.

While the state of some of the roads is frustrating, look at it from the councils point of view, there budgets have been well and truely exhausted with the winter weather, and associated repairs. They can only do what they can with the resources they have, also made worse with the credit crunch. Then theres all the claims people have been putting in.

Very little of the Road Tax gets put on the roads, hence the name change from Road Fund Licence to Vehicle Excise Duty.
