My New Motor - Astra Coupe

    Finally got me another Vauxhall!!
After more than a year seeing the MG sitting on the drive doing nothing I can't wait to have my own car on the road!

Put a deposit down on this today, bringing it home next weekend

Since when did you own a Coupe?! (You can tell i'm not on here very often!)

Thanks, yeah, its just a 1.8, didn't want to go any bigger as I'll be using it to get to and from work every day

For the mould, put an ice cream tub full of salt inside the car (soaks up all the moisture and the mould will disappear)
If the interior smells a bit , sit a container of vinegar in the car for a few days aswell, sounds daft but works a treat

Would an old fish and chip wrapper work then?

    Nice looking car Elle

Cheers Gary, will give that a try!

Been meaning to take the sub, amp & speakers out of it for ages but never actually got round to it and its damp in the boot, if I bring them inside and leave them to dry off for a bit do you reckon they'll still work?

Re: My New Motor - Astra Coupe - UPDATED

Well what a waste of a weekend!!! Went off to see the car Saturday morning and it was a complete lemon!!

When I spoke to the guy on the phone he told me it had:
    Full Service history
Just had an mot that day
    Decent tyres
    2 keys
    'Immaculate' body work
    64000 miles
    2 months tax
2 previous owners who had looked after it well.

On first seeing it it looked ok-ish. Checked round it and there were a few fairly big scratches and wee dings - but thats to be expected on a 10 year old car so I wasnt too bothered, all it needed was some tlc.
Gets round to the front and its obviously been in an accident and badly repaired - the bumper was a totally different colour and you can see where they had put masking tape on it when it had been sprayed, there was quite a dent in the drivers side wing and it just didn't look like it all fitted together properly.
Had a look in the boot and the carpet was pissed wet through and you could see that the sealant wasn't original.
There was a scuff on the back bumper (which he did tell me about) but he 'forgot' to tell me about all the other scuffs, scratches, chips and dings.
The inside was disgusting!! Stank to high heaven, rips and tears everywhere, generally just . His understanding of immaculate obviously isn't the same as ours.

Anyway, went into the office and the 'valeter' starts to write out a receipt for us, and nae offence but this guy was thick as mince, couldn't even spell my name!
Before I signed anything Melv questioned the accident damage. He said he didn't know anything about it so got his boss.
So this other guy comes through and tells us that no damage had been recorded.
Asked him about the service history. He told me on the phone that he had all the paperwork. I'd sent my grandparents round to have a look at it earlier in the week and he told them it was in the post. When we asked, he conveniently couldn't find it.
We took a look at the v5 and mot certificate. V5 seemed genuine enough but there was more than the 2 owners I was told it had. The mot was a complete joke - it had been mot'd in september 2009 which is fair enough but why tell me that it had just had an mot the week before?! It had also 'accidentally' gotten wet and you couldn't read the mileage on it. Accidentally my arse!!!
By this point both of us just looked at each other and shook our heads. Got the guy to put our deposit back onto my card and just walked away. I'm so so disappointed that they lied like that when they knew fine how far we were travelling.

So we're back home now, Coupe-less and back to the drawing board!!
