    RMS Engineering

    Hi,

I stumbled on this site when browsing and noticed some old threads about RMS Engineering in Prestwick. I just wanted to clarify a few points for your members. RMS was founded by my Dad, Bobby Brown or R.O. Brown over thirty years ago. In the early days the factory was in Maybole before moving to Ayr and then out to Prestwick. My Dad and his team built up an excellent reputation and had high standards. In the early days my Mum also worked there.
The quality of work was such that every exhaust purchased was covered by a lifetime guarantee, in fact we often removed exhausts and modified them to fit the customers next car.
However, this all changed in January 1999 when my Dad died. The company was bought over by the current owner and within a few months the complaints about the new standards of work and customer service started rolling in. In my opinion this was the end of RMS Engineering as it was. Some of the excellent employees my Dad had did go on to start their own businesses as they were unhappy with the quality of work they were being asked to do. One such business is C & C in Hillington where the standards my Dad set are being maintained and improved all the time.
I hope this helps your members.

    Welcome.

You're not saying anything the majority of people (locally anyway) don't already know. RMS have been living off past reputations for some time now.

RMS can kiss my ring, i heard all the horror stories beforehand but thought they couldnt be that bad surely, how wrong i was, gave them 2 alloys to repair, 3 days later and £56 out my wallet my wheels were worse than when i dropped them off, better still they managed to shred one of my kumhos and replaced it with a kwik fit special offer then he has the cheek to hand me the buggered tyre and tell me to dispose it, i disposed of it all right, left outside his gate

Cheers for the info john! Its a shame when good buisness's are bought over, and the standards go down the pan. Everyone is out for a fast buck these days, customer service and workmanship seems to be way down the priorities list.

Have heard good things about C+C though

can confirm good customer service from both C+C and Jonnie at elite as I have had exhausts from both of them and both were good. Got my last one off Meercat in Kilburnie as rodgerq got me a good price and it is spot on as well. Seems RMS is the only dodgy place round here for exhausts.

    Re: RMS Engineering

i remember getting an exhaust of your dad way back for a mini ....
i then went back on 2 separate occasions to rms first time was a good experience then later it was terrible, i seem to remember one of the brothers from seditas was involved with them at one stage ?
For me I only go to Meercat wullie's work is top notch i mean colin mcrae used to get him to do the headers on his mk2 escort rally car ....

i use c+c for everything as there spot on ive been in c+c and seen some of rms's work and deffo makes me stay away even more, considering my work used them for all there cars at one time then found it was better to just buy the stuff and make them instead of sending them to rms for the exhausts to snap or fall off

you get what you pay for, all the stuff at c+c is custom, they make the boxes from scratch and put all the baffles in etc, as is all the pipe work compared to a few companys who buy in here boxes and parts

true but i was quoted 330 for a single box 2inch system with no fancy tailpipe for my track nova. i thought that was a bit expensive imo

    Re: RMS Engineering

I always use Jonny @ Elite, sound guy and always well priced.

I bought a squareback civic around 3 years ago which was fitted with an RMS exhaust and it was a mess.

My current car was purchased from a boy who works there, and in his wisdom decided to fit a 2.5" decat pipe and an abortion of stainless system to the car.... Definatly wouldnt be going there for any work, is there any need for a 2.5" decat on a n/a 1.6 with a 2" exhaust.

    Re: RMS Engineering

16vnovakev i know what you mean, i can go get a cheaper system in most places and even on ebay, you get what you pay for and if you go in and spend the time watching them build the exhaust from scratch you understand what it costs a bit more

    Re: RMS Engineering

i had an ehaust for my old focus fitted by rms,
worst decission ever, had to go back twice to get it "sorted"
ended up taking it to elite who done a superb job with very little notice.
