Astra mk2 SXi project

ello people. This is my 1800 SXi Astra project i've just picked up. I used to have a 1.8 SRi 2 years ago and it was my favourite car ever! I've been looking for one ever since and this SXi came up for sale locally about a month ago but I missed out and was kicking myself. Was contacted by the new owner asking me for parts and I offered to buy it of him for what he paid and after a bit of hesitation it's now mine!

Anyway enough yapping , here's a lot of pics of my new Astra.

The bad bits:
Drivers rear arch - completely shot!



Passenger rear arch - not as bad but still fubar

Rust on drivers door


After a quick wash - looks a bit cleaner


My plan of action right now is to buy a pair of inner and outer rear arches and to get myself a good drivers wing and get both sides painted. After that I can work on modifying and further tidying up

I had one of those (in a deep red/purple) - was a fantastic little car and I used to run it down to Cornwall every other weekend (around 280 miles each way).

It started to rot around the rear suspension so reluctantly sold it to an old bloke with one eye

I had a few mk 2 a couple sxi a Sri a GTE and my fav was my Belmont Sri nice to ser somebody saving one :-D:-D

I's bad allright, but it'll be getting cut out and replaced soon!

Yeah they're pretty hardy engines , just the tinworm that kills them as usual with old VX's

Aye, would love a belmont Sri but this will do me nicely!


Not much of an update but got some wheels for the mk2. 16inch raceline RL7's , swapped them to Murray for some Cesaros I had.


Had to try 2 of them on , I reckon once it loses the monster truck stance they'll look the part!


I've also purchased a set of rot free front wings and I'm in negotiations with TJM about rear inner and outer arches

I'm actually debating refurbing them, going to keep them white for now though so we'll see how I feel about silver when the time comes.

fresh white will look great, and suit the car better id say

them wheels have been like that since i bought them off crombie, apart from the comp centres and stickers tho they were never on.

2 new wings are now paid for and on their way , as are inner and outer rear arches for both sides

Seeing as things are starting to move with this project I thought I best dig out and start cleaning all the parts I have that I'll be using.

Headlights. I may 'depo' them if I can. But I need the driver's side anyway as the one fitted is shagged. Debating to use the grille aswell, it can go on anyway and I'll decide if I want to keep it then. Also GTE rear vents, but i'll only use them if i can't find Nexia ones.


Lowering kit, front springs are -60mm ones that I never used, rears are -60mm corsa items that need a lick of paint. The shocks are also from a corsa and cleaned up great. I just need to get some front shocks now.


GTE tail lights and LCD digidash which I need to find a transducer for.


A good driver side mirror as mine has a deep scuff in it.


K&N 57i from my old SRi cleaned up well.


An OMP strut brace - very scruffy paint finish. Something to deal with at a later date.


Debating whether to fit this or not. Bonnet with GSi vents in it... I'll sleep on it.

Will suit racelines once its not 4x4'n! Plenty of goodies in that garage for a mk2.. why you've not shown of th 'burberry' is beyond me though! Look forward to seeing it sprayed.

Oh aye , I forgot to mention I started scrubbing up my SRi doorcards tonight too. The photos don't show how much cleaner they are now used carpet cleaner and just scrubbed it in with a damp cloth.

I ken, I'm more an SRi/SXi/CDi guy myself in looks terms.

I prefer the Burberry over the SXi trim so Burberry it will be

Wee update.

The mk2 is now at the bodyshop to get the 2 wings and rear inner/outers fitted. Called up today to see what like and he's started stripping it down, removed the wings and cut out the inner arches.

She's looking very sorry for herself at the mo
