I dare any of you to tell me you wouldn't let this upstanding young citizen slob on your knob like corn on the cob.
just got a few replacement parts and now treated it to a set of black cav slabs, need to send it away for welding so it can be done properly as i have a rust hole just over the chassis bar in the back and someone has offered to do alot of work to it. when the body is sorted then its tikme to do the engine then should be finished![]()
Tricky one this. I personally would start with a better shell.
And try to buy parts in the right order, otherwise you end up with less space and less money to spend on the essentials.
yeah, i have gone abit silly on the goodies, now i have focused on getting the car into working order![]()
Removed my old back box
Fitted my DTM back box
Its massive
Pipe needs shortening
Old door ready for removing
I know your young so you'll want exhausts etc, but really just get it on the road before your money and more importantly your enthusiasm runs out
Get it to someone who can help you
i totally agree, ive gone extremely wrong with all of the mods before the car works but now im focusing on the engineand getting the welding done but since the welding will be pricey and im on a NMW job then it wont be done any time soon but hopefully the door can be replaced soon
Love your enthusiasm, without people like you the classic car scene would be on its arse! Keep going and get the welding done.
PS the back box looks like a tow bar![]()
Dont you dare delete the above!
thanks haha means alot since many people from college (supposed to be mechanics) have said its not worth it but it is, they just havent looked at it properly :') the only thing holding me back at the moment is funding really :/ the back box looked silly so its been removed, i do have a replacement but i need a new mount on the back box as the current one is too small
Buy a mig welder and teach yourself. It will be a lot cheaper and much more rewarding.
i want to learn but i will probably do it wrong and there is a rust patch in the boot that needs doing which goes over the chassis rail so someone who knows what theyre doing is gonna do that part, ill probably try and get the old panels back and teach myself on them and i dont even know what im looking for when it comes to weldingi think i may practice on my battery tray that needs re-doing
havent been many updates lately since money is short and we're having a typical british summer so much hasnt been done to the car.
the slabs have been removed from the car as the other day my dogs went mad so i let them into the garden to find one of my sheds open and my back gate open but luckily nothing was stolen, the slabs dont have locking nuts yet i thought it was abit risky leaving them on. since im short on money and sufficient parts i thought the car could do with abit of a wash, but firstly the holes had to be covered with duct tape.
despite a power wash and alot of elbow grease i couldnt remove these, luckily the whole car needs polishing so hopefully i can remove them off the parts that are staying, the front panels, maybe the slam panel and the doors are being replaced
from a distance it didnt look too bad
The slabs needed a quick clean too
it will look great when its done mate
I certainly hope so but its pretty far off at the moment, the welding is going to be the most costly up to now, thats if the engine works
Just an update on the project, the old door still hasnt been removed since i havent got hold of a good tool to do it, people have suggested boot pins and bonnet stays but i cant get hold of any, the old rusty earth strap has been replaced and a battery is on the way at the end of the month. ill keep you updated with the electrical and engine situation![]()
well, the good news is that the electrics work and the engine started on the first of this month so is due for a full service. bad news is that i still have a rubbish job with rubbish hours and rubbish pay so progress is very slow :/
This car is fantastic
Really worth the investment and the dedication
We're now watching the evolution of your project
its only made me want to do it more now but as for the evolouting, its still going to be pretty slow unless I get taken for any of these jobs/ apprenticeships ive applied for. next plan is to track down 2 front wings, a passenger door, 2 rear arches and hopefully a MK1 GTE front bumper, then she should be ready to send off for welding and body work
