Just a word of warning from experience mate. Load it on forward if you can. All that weight at the back has a tendancy to lift the tow hitch, thus making the back of the tow car very light.
Roll on Billing 2013, it will not rain again!!

    Re: Project pikey racing

Yeah car will be facing forward mate, that was just how the car was sat on the drive at the time

    Cheers guys

Nothing like last minute mods, Ash put me on to guy who sells part worn uniroyal rainsport 2's for £10 a corner

So whipped off the ditch finders and set off to pick up the new tyres, bloke was mega sound and gave me 6 tyres for £40

So now we have decent wet tyres as Combe is looking like it could be wet

It went really well as soon as we got on the 888's and a048r's

We've both left the day with massive grins on our faces

    Re: Project pikey racing

Well got to say the car held up really well on track today  Neither of us had driven the car other than up and down the close so weren't sure what to expect tbh, but the car out exceeded our expectations

The first two sessions were wet so we were on the rainsport 2's which held up well on the very slippery track, but once it had dried out we did two more sessions but with the A048's and 888's and the difference was amazing the grip levels were outstanding and I felt we could really start pushing the car to its limits

We had no real issues with the car other than a oil leak and a slight knock on the drivers side (probably the driveshaft needs re torquing) so all in all a brilliant first outing

If anyone has any photos of the car on track can you please post them up

    Re: Project pikey racing

Decided it was best to work in the end, weather was poor also so didn't see the point in the drive to stand in rain..

Glad it all went well tho mate, did u notice a difference between the 888's and the a048's? Wat would you say are better?

    Re: Project pikey racing

Yeah weather wasn't the greatest but spent most of the day in the car tbh, we had A048's on the front as there harder wearing than the 888's, and we had 888's on the rear, they weren't mixed on purpose it's just we bought them off chip for £15 a corner an that's all he had left.

IMO A048's are slightly better for track die to the better side wall and the 888's are better for drag as they have a softer side wall, but tbh either is fine there both awesome tyres once warm

Mate, there are some differences in the tyre and worth factoring in of you are competing but for trackdays you won't notice the difference in how much you enjoy the day! Both offer excellent grip in the dry :-)

    Re: Project pikey racing

Agreed, either are miles better than a normal road tyre.
For trackdays just buy whatever comes up cheapest out of the two .
If you get choice between both at similar money go for the a048 though.

    Re: Project pikey racing

My 2nd and 3rd sessions were on Dunlop Direzza 02g's and i would also highly reccomend them. As above they were bought purely due to the price, but turned out to be a fantastic track tyre once warmed up.

    Re: Project pikey racing

Oh yeah totally forgot about the clutch issues!

During the second session our clutch decided to start slipping and was very hard to select gears once warm, managed to adjust cable until it stopped slipping but I think the gearbox fluid (free from work) was not up to the job so once hot made it differcult to select gears, so will drain that out and put some decent high temp stuff in

It hurts to know that as a tax payer i cant contribute towards a decent gearbox fluid for you, how rude of Her Maj to supply inferior fluids

On a more serious note though, car looked to be going very well, you were certainly holding your own against some serious cars out there.

    Must be the budget cuts

We were competitive once we had the dry tyres on pretty much drove the car flat out, was happy with my last session as I didn't get over took once and on the restart smoked everyone, to the point we thought we were the only once left on track as we couldn't see anyone behind us

We got past loads of stuff that we shouldn't really lol, managed to chase down Subaru's, m5, z4 coupe, various vxr's. But I think that's more down to the fact we smashed the car round knowing we could brake it and still get home lol

But tbh it was epic fun no matter what happened so would highly recommended it to anyone :-)
