the corsa b track car

right thought id do a project thread seeing as i read everyone elses and enjoy them alot.

stripped a GSi last year and got a 1.2 8v corsa shell to stick it all in, wasnt very tidy but that will all be sorted, had to mess around with the rear spacer for gearbox mount and linkage was a pain but its all fun!

spec of the engine i put together was:

coscast head
kent ast1612 cams
forged pistons
Arp rod bolts
new big end bearings
4 branch manifold
custom exhaust system with central silencer
enlarged 68mm gasflowed throttle body
Group N ecu (7500rpm rev limit)
Mantzel power cap
beru ignition leads
lightweight billet flywheel
roose motorsport hoses
lightweight single V crank pully
Alloy radiator

as you can see the shell was not a pretty sight!



so went about de stripping it and trying to get it red again! so out comes mop and G3 compound. and some serious work!





then had a problem with the EML light coming on, i suspected the loom first so stripped it out again and rebuilt it with new connectors, started it up and no EML light! result



then de wipered the boot. and fitted new exhaust



then went about removing the crappy interior and sound deadening, which was fun! lol







decided to carbon wrap the grill, wheel caps, arches and petrol cap as i hadnt seen it done.







started to look abit better now?



didnt like the bonnet red so it went matt black



i wasnt happy with how the car looked, sat too high, so go some GSi skirts and lowered the back abit, also fitted some sparco buckets, just waiting for the 3inch sabelts too arrive.

then some more goodys arrived! always feels like xmas coming home to parts lol!

ARP bolts to try hold the engine together, replaced shells too.


68mm gasflowed throttle body (along with the group N ecu made a massive difference to the car)


also got a power cap too. so went about fitting that lot!





along with a OMP steering wheel.


started to get abit busy at my place lol



wheels started scrubbing the arches so nots of adjusting needed!



and this is what its sat like through out the winter due too something blowing a hole in the diff casing, pissing gearbox fluid out everywhere on the motorway, and destroying the box.



got loads of things going on with it this year like cage, bigger arches ect.. ill keep you updated!

Nice project mate, quite a lot of stuff done to the engine. Good job on the paintwork. Like the carbon stuff but think the skirts need doing aswell to match.
Prefer the bonnet black aswell

cheers mate, engine runs great, needs a 2.5inch system now though. yeah the carbon bits have had there day, ive got some new arches lined up for it now, to widen the track. cant find gsi jacking point covers anywhere though!

havnt been able to spend as much time as i want on the corsa as i picked up this astra SRi turbo 190 a while back in a sorry state, turbo was knackered ect.. managed to sorce all the parts for it, vxr turbo, new shocks springs bodykit ect.. may drive it around for abit not sure yet.

bit of an update, got some time to work on the car, so out comes the engine as ive got a few bits to do on it and it just makes it easier!

rebuilt the linkage today, new bushes turned up so the gearchange will be mint tastic now!



new inner CV came too, looks too good to fit lol also the dizzy seal was doing my head in leaking!





also i weighed the flywheel and the lightweight one and the standard was 6.8kg and the new billet one was 3.8kg so a bit saving over an already light flywheel. well pleased!

well been busy fitting this engine, but cracked on with the corsa today



few more bits turned up to fit



fitted the cambelt and new pulleys



built up the new shafts, with new gators and CV's



new gearbox on as the last one blew its diff



painted a few bits in crinkle





and tommorow it'll be back in the car! cant wait

well got the bulk head cut out as ive always hated the look



and the engines back in!



massive 100mm neck air filter turned up!

linkage bushes were from lmf and vauxhall i cant remeber prices but not dear!

im thinking of changing the wrapped grill now but dont know what too?

well managed to get some stuff done today even though it was minus temperatures all day and snow everywhere. got engine back in and everything plumbed up, had a few niggles but sorted that out.



had a new central silencer box fitted as its too loud and it still is, any ideas how to shut it up abit?



fitted the new coilovers, and camber bolts, be nice to sort the drop out abit better now with improved handling. will be getting new rally design springs too.



this is how i left it for the night, 95% ready for starting tomorrow just need to wire lambda back in.



picked these up in the week also, need abit of work too the front bumper but im more then happy sorting that out, was fed up with the look of the car now.

Did you balance the flywheel or anything or did you just bolt it straight up? As i got told when i got my lightweight one that if i fitted it it would throw it out of balance and do some damage? That true or have i been blagged lol

the flywheel has already been balanced when made, theres various drilled holes (not all way through) where metals been taken out
