    My Mk4 Astra SRi

Not going to be the greatest project thread of all time but i thought i would share what i have been up to with you all

Hears the starting point a 2000 White Mk 4 Astra SRi 2L Ecotec Engine.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I have owned this car since 2005 and in that time have covered nearly 60000 miles however with fuel costs decided to get myself a diesel as i commute over 500miles a week.
However some sort of sentimental decision ment no matter what i just couldnt come to get rid of my astra so with no MOT or tax and been sat for over a year and a half i decided to take her round the back and give her a good sorting out!

1st stop give the old wheels a new lease of life
Shot blasted and powder coated in white to match the car

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

and even got the lowering springs sprayed up to match

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

whilst i was on a painting mission i replaced the drivers door handle with a rear offside one from the scrappy so to remove the lock hole and then colour coded them both

After all the exterior work i gave the insides a good clean and decided to replace the rear grab handles with the illuminated ones again a scrappy bargain (theres a theme hear)

After all that hard work and reading up on some project threads on hear i decided to take the plunge and:

    Whipped the Engine Out!
Wasnt quite sure yet on what i was going to replace it with? it was either going to be C20XE or X20LET both quite expensive to source a good one.
    But then this showed up

X30XE from an MV6 Omega Ex Police interceptor 3L V6 Power
i had to strip it out myself from the car sat on the blokes front lawn (not good when using an engine crane) but the car had 178000 miles on it however had a recipt from the force for the replacement engine at 86500 miles so new engine had less than 100000 miles on it Bounus it was a steal at £150!

Sat next to the car waiting to go in.
however i have to sort a few bits first on the list are
    From the X25XE
    inlet plenums
    sump
sensors and ECU inc key chip
offside 2 piece driveshaft (to reduce tourqe steer)
and loads of various hoses belts and bits and bobs to bolt it all together

    Re: My Mk4 Astra SRi

Well got all bits sourced and shes up and running

i have litterally just thrown it all together to get her running as quickly as possible just using the standard F23 box and original shafts athough i have uprated the brakes to 308mm disks and pads from a coupe turbo.

taken her out for a few test runs 1st up the Stowe circuit at silverstone for a track day

Then down Santa Pod for a RWYB day

Didnt do too badly handled well at Silverstone despite all the extra weight up front and some respectable times at Santa Pod.
The only problem is trying to put all that power and tourqe down in one go just spins up the tyres, even pulling off in the wet is nearly impossible

    So with much thought:

Shes off the road again although only tempoary as waiting to get these bits and pieces fitted-

Split Driveshaft that never got fitted the first time

Set of coilovers for the front to cope with the extra weight

Replacement Gearbox old ones fine but need something to put this in

Quaife F23 ATB limited slip differential should sort out putting the power down nicely

So whilst its coming apart i thought i would do a touch of painting to smarten it all up a bit

inlets and plenums all painted up

new gearbox with the quaife fitted all painted up ready to go
Update coming soon once i start getting it all back together

    Re: My Mk4 Astra SRi

Well a little update for today the engine is out again

    And Gearbox is off

And just thought i would share how i have done the engine mounts incase anyone else is looking to do this type of conversion
Front engine to subframe mount just using angle iron and the original omega engine rubber mount

Stabiliser bar mount using the original astra engine mount small piece of angle iron and some spacer bars

And then the auxiliary belt layout

i have removed the Power steering pump as the astra is electric pump and the air con pump to make life easier then used a belt from a 3 cyl corsa i think as just went wandering round the scrappy till i found one the right length also the tensioner pully is a smaller one from a saab i think.
