    Kadett E 400... "el batallas" (the battle-car)

    Hi everyone,

I presented just here --> Hello everyone (again) from Barcelona!

a few months ago, and now, now that things are going better, I can present my project. It's in its initial steps, but I'll try to make it run, and make it run fast!

Ok, that's my ride, a 1988 Opel Kadett GSI 16v that I bought in 2009, in a non-decent status XD. In my presentation thread you can take a look at that.

Nowdays, this is the actual look of the car:

And then, I felt the need of squeeze the 20xe unit inside the loom. Back in the days, I had a c20let ready to swap, but unfortunately, I had to sell it... and now it's running in a friend's Astra GSI, giving a healthy 280 hp.

Ok, so, I'm going to take the difficult way. I decided to go for a throttle bodied XE. I'll go slow, but let's see what we can do, initially for a few pounds...

First of all, we should get the engine removed... it was on mid october, and there's the national clubGSIspain meeting on early december... let's try to make a throttle bodied Motronic! XD

After 23 years, the engine sees the light for first time...

Very tired 3rd cylinder main bearings... fortunately, the crank is totally OK.

The 3,6 kg Lightweight flywheel. A MUST, car reaction is superb... I've didn't notice any wrong effect on the driveability, or something. All, has been good.

New set of bearings and bolts... in this phase, I'll run with stock ones. ARP's will come in future, for sure.

    In right range of clearances...

    Awaiting...

New goodies... from a Suzie 750 gixxer:

    More to come tomorrow...
    Greetings!

Re: Kadett E 400... "el batallas" (the battle-car)

Let's see a little bit more:

    That's what we have...

And this is a possible layout for the throttle bodies... ITB's comes from a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R 750, and that plastic plenum was provided from a Nissan Micra 1.5 dCi. It has a decent size, an AFM equivalent intake area, and it's light and looks tidy.

In the future, the idea is to run a DTA s40pro, but for today I'll try to manage it with the standard Motronic, and what is more difficult, try to run properly. Usually, throttle bodied 20xe's looses it's brilliant low range torque due a too short intake tract. Estimating a proper powerband placed between 6500 to 8000 rpms, this intake tract should have at least 18 inches of leghth, counted from valve seat to end of the runner. It's almost impossible, I should place the whole intake under wipers XD. So, original intake give us a 16 inches lenghth. All I can manage is 15 inches leghth, so I expect to loose a little bit of torque at low rpm's, but get a stronger punch near redline.

In those pictures, still miss the spacers to gain another 4 extra inches.

We can see in this last picture the vacuum lines and the vac rail, needed to arrange the mastervac and ICV idle valve.

    Looking good!

Pues soy de Barcelona ciudad, pero conozco bien Viladecans, ya que una exnovia era de all*. Si mal no he leido alguna vez, eres de Galicia no? Hace mucho que estás por all*? La verdad es que me gustar*a visitar UK, trabajando en Nissan podr*a pedir que me llevaran a Cranfield o Sunderland xD E incluso pasar una temporada viviendo por alli.

Back to the project, this week I'll try to finish the engine bay and loom, and also the whole throttle system... more to come.

Re: Kadett E 400... "el batallas" (the battle-car)

    Few progress, but progress anyway...

ICV fitted and ready to slap it's face against Motronic XD

New satin black engine bay... it has an horrible finish, but for the car utility, it's enough...

Also re-fitting all the loom and wires, I have to shorten some parts.

    Ready to fit timing cambelt:

And how it looks like once finished. Note the adapter plate to fit the throttle bodies, made of a standard chopped intake manifold:

It's not a clean or detailed car, but for me, it's a driving pleasure car, maybe in the next rebuild I'll take more care about details...

Re: Kadett E 400... "el batallas" (the battle-car)

Jajajaja, has visto David? A*n no están montadas, Bakedano lo sufrió sin ellas, pero ahora que ya está rodado, me pongo con ello jejeje. En clubgsispain prometo actualizarlo en breves.

After doing some miles to get all parts used, and running stock injection, the engine seems to run like as new. After dumping a healthy 150 bhp (134 whp) and 220 Nm (161 lbft), it's time to arrange those gixxer throttle bodies. Next steps, vernier pulleys and DTA s40pro, or similar...
