Today's job was to investigate an oil leak so I drove it up onto the ramps and had a poke about underneath. Looked to be coming from the rocker cover gasket so I popped through to Vauxhall to pick up a gasket and 10 x O-rings.
and the part numbers for anyone interested
Rocker gasket - 55558349 (Qty 1)
O rings - 90528438
Pre strip down - Note the route of the pipe coming off the chav valve. All the way to the front of the engine, along the underside of the slam panel, past between the airbox and the inner wing then down behind the inlet. Seems a bit pointless to me.
During - note that I have re-routed the chav valve pipe
Why oh why do people insist on using silicone sealant instead of going and buying a new gasket. The old gasket was clarted in the stuff. The old gasket must have been quite old, the O rings were rock hard too.
No pics of it completed, it was dark
Also put up some new shelving in my garage today for storing tools, consumables and my oil stock.
Next on the list -
Fit flowmaster (couldn't be arsed extending the wiring today)
Fit 4300K HID kit
Refurb the MV6 / Elite wheels, buy some tyres for them and fit them
Do something about the exhaust noise. It's too bloody loud and I'm getting old![]()

Gave it a wash today. I'm still loving the colour although I will need to spend a bit more time on it as there are a poop load of black bits on the paint. I'm not sure if its tree sap from the previous owners parking spot or if its with it sitting about at mine.

congratulations on the new motor. i love this colour. i featured an astra turbo in the same colour for total vauxhall just before xmas. in the flesh this shade of green looks even better than it does on screen. this is a shot i took of the car i spent some time with:
you rarely see them as not that many turbos were produced with this paintwork. i can't remember the exact figure off the top of my head but i remember finding out for the article. i'll take a look if you're interested.
look forward to progress reports![]()

Thanks Humbucker. Yes, I remember reading that feature a few times. it's a big spec LEH engine in that one if I remember correctly.
I'm led to believe that only 200 turbos were produced in this colour of green. I was a little sceptical about the colour at first but I love it now.
Yes I think you're right; 200 was the number I was thinking of. The same is true of the Linea Rossa edition; there were only 200 of those making it one of the rarest Mk4s.
The car I wrote about should be on about 540bhp now I think. I'll have to get an update at some point to see how he's getting on. Lovely machine!

Nice looking motor matey. I really like the colour.
I'm kinda doing the same with my coupe. Want to keep it fairly standard but just get it completely up to scratch (although I do like the GSi front end and the 18" VXR Snowflakes on them too)
In fact, just parted with £360 this morning for a set of tyres for mine!! I was almost in tears.![]()

I used fallout remover on mine as it had loads of spots like that. Tar & glue wouldn't took it but that took it off no problem
Nearly 24 deg C last week then today
Yes, under the bright bit of the crap photo is fecking snow. Good old Scotland.
Exhaust will be here on Thursday. I've started rubbing down the Omega wheels so once I get a minute and it's warmer they will all end up the same colour. Silver of course.
MV6?
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
I'm not too sure. They are either MV6 or Elite. I don't know the difference.

Those are Elite.
MV6 are:

They're there, in their room.
Thanks Dan. I think I prefer the ones I have seeing them both on the same page.
Last night wasn't snow. This is snow.

The Omega wheels will look great, I've seen them on Mk4 Astra's before, but they are ET35 iirc so you might experience a slightly different ride.
