    Murrays - S reg 'GSi' project/tidy up

    Awryyyt!

Recently px'd the cavalier for this astra, just now getting a time to put up a thread! So heres the boring bit..

This is now my 5th astra (2 mk4's and 3 mk3's) and already this ones my favourite. Always had a soft spot for mk3 astras, Started off with buying 'project ugg'. Was keen to make that astra one off a kind but eventually lost interest and ended up selling it on incomplete which I do regret. Following that astra I bought the 'astra mk3 project/tidy up' which was an excellent shell, really clean and alot off potential to make something good out off but got a good offer so had to let it go. With the last 2 mk3s I've always had a mk4 astra aswell as a daily driver, Recently though I sold the mk4 and bought a cavalier xe: Cavalier C20XE - (project/tidyup)

That was fun, for a month or so. Then the novility off the redtop wore off, the mot ran out aswell as the tax. I then px'd the cavalier with user 'Cavalier-C20LET' on here. He'd bought the astra as a std 1.7 td and completely stripped it down, painted it up and rebuilt it back up interior/exterior wise as a GSi with a couple other vaux goodies aswell. When he rebuilt it up he fitted it with a c20let but now the cars been returned to its standard engine. On the brightside its cheap to run and means I can go about setting up an engine for myself

Anyway, think i've done enough talking! I'll let the pictures do the rest

Heres a wee spec first of all though

    Exterior:
    PHS1 GSi bonnet
    PHS1 GSi grille
    PHS1 GSi bumpers
    PHS1 GSi side skirts
    PHS1 GSi spoiler
    PHS1 GSi mirrors

    Interior:
    PHS1 GSi Interior
    Black dash/trims
    Momo racer steering wheel
    MK2 GTE digi dials
    GSi MFD
    CDX door speakers/6x9s
    Leccy windows/mirrors

    Chassis:
    Koni adjustable suspension
    Braided brake lines
    Scorpion stainless exhaust system
    17" alloys
    Disc conversion rear hubs

When I got the car it had no wheels so I borrowed a set off errr.. 14" 'stealths' for the night, the following day I got my own 17" white multispokes wrapped in tires and fitted them. Also bought it a new rear number plate and had one off my mates valet it. Heres some pictures..

This was her the night I got it

    Wheels fitted

This was it after its first polish, its gonna need alot more.. at the moment i'll more than likely have it resprayed as the paints not the best.

Nothing really to update on this if im honest! Not done much bar use it daily to work and back, and its doing that perfectly Can only be a good thing though coz so far nothings gone wrong lmao

Gonna throw it in th garage tomorrow and fit new mudflaps on it, paint th calipers and give it a good wash/hoover and wax. Hopefully get it oil sprayed in the next couple weeks as they've started throwing grit down already Not to sure if i'll run it over the worst off the weather, probably when(if) snow comes i'll take it off th road. Latest winter project plan is to buy a c20xe and rebuild it with a high lifter cam.. not too sure what else to tune it with though? Not keen to spend too much otherwise i'd be aswell going for a c20let.

Heres a few pictures i've taken over th last 2k odd miles i've done in th car

Re: Murrays - S reg 'GSi' project/tidy up

Not any major updates still, got mudflaps for th front and paint to refurb the wheels in anthracite for the winter. Cant be bothered with the hassle of the white ones looking dirty all the time so gonna have them an anthracite colour.. not sure how it'll look but can always put them white after winter anyway.

Got the windows tinted last night so heres a couple pics

Cant see the front staying on long with th law but we'll see! if they do i'm gonna have the drivers redone as its got a beauty crease init but bar that they're quite well done

Re: Murrays - S reg 'GSi' project/tidy up

As some of you may have seen in the engine and transmission section I'd put a thread up on why my astra wasnt running but I'll start from the beginning anyway! On Sunday night I was made it about half way up the driveway and the car cut out so tried starting it again and it eventually fired but cut out again. Pretty puzzled why I didnt put too much thought into it as it was late on, dark and i couldnt really be assed doing anything at that time. Monday morning came and I was more hoping than thought that maybe it'd just ran dry of fuel (which woulda been unlikely as it had over a 1/4 tank). Anyway bought some fuel for it, tried that and still nothing so gave up on that and headed to work.

As I was at work I got one of th boys to go have a look at it as he was off. First thing he realised was that th fuel pump wasnt priming so set my mind it was th fuel pump and after work got cracking fitting another one on. After fitting the fuel pump there was still no life init, checked the filter wasnt blocked or anything (which it wasnt) then checked th fuel bleed valve by the fuel rail and there was fuel there but wasnt very compressed coming out. Next was to check the th spark plugs to see if it was sparking, turned out it wasnt. Thought then it was possibly the coilpack but after asking a few people ( Cavalier-C20let ) was advised to check down by the ecu to see if the relays were orite. Pulled of all the plastics and everything looked fine but on ignition the relay wasnt click and there was no management light on so after asking about again was advised that it'd possibly be a broken cable in the engine bay. Around 10 last night checked for that and turns out one of the cable (unsure on name) had earthed or something and melted leaving it split in 2! Temporarily joined the cables together to see if that would solve it and right enough it did. Then tday at work joined them together with straight connectors and tied them down better to avoid it happening again.

Bay isnt the tidiest and did consider spending a couple hours tnyt putting all the wires/hoses away as best as possibly but decided agaisnt it as hopefully it'll be treated to a new engine in the near future! Did make sure that all cables/hoses are safely places though so thats th main thing.

Got a couple pictures, bit boring i know but shows what im trying to talk about more haha..

    cables to start with

    Needing a wash but..
