    Re: Pitstoppete's Monaro CV8

Swift update and pics of win!

Monkfish the Monaro boys get their hooj AP Racing brake kits from somewhere else and have to wait somewhere around 8-10 weeks if AP are in a good mood, more if they aint, so as they have none in stock I called somewhere else and they have two sets on order, one of which was unassigned, so have shoved a deposit on them bad boys, arriving there early next month so wont have to wait too long for the epic stoppers it needs.....

No orange side repeaters as yet Benn......... wish i could find some that fitted......hmm...

Number plate from the DVLA deliberated over long and hard, now finally bought and on its way, watch this space..

But, full size win tonight, have had a delivery from the US of A in the form of a box of new shiny..
New two piece engine covers have appeared "fuel rail covers" they call them over there, as they dont cover the whole engine over like the original one did, so you can actually fit them and still see some of the lovely V8.

std VX badged one that looks ****te with it's flaky silver paint:-

naked LS1 V8 (stolen from a Corvette remember!) in need of covers:-

Spanking new Corvette ones imported from a GM parts place in the US:-

both fitted with a few tweeks here and there,:-

Basically they fit straight on after a slight cut to the throttle cable bracket, as Corvettes dont have them being FBW, the little fittings they clip onto are already fitted to the coil packs on every LS engine anyway

Very pleased with the results and it has finished off the engine bay a treat, after many hours of cleaning and de-dusting it all.

    What do you reckon?

    Re: Pitstoppete's Monaro CV8

Been reading on the PH Monaro/vxr8 forum about pollen filters for this car as there's nowt in the manual about one and I am now educated and amazed Monaros at least, didnt come with one as std, no idea about later cars, not really interested in VXR8's, their ugly!

Wanted one in mine as I get hayfever and sneeze alot over the dash! tree pollen screws me up in the spring and I hate the dust and flob everywhere on the dash, so stripped my car apart earlier and removed the silly steel mesh thing which is where the filter could be if they could have been ar5ed to fit one at the factory, after vacuuming all the feathers, dust and leaves out of the way so i could see it.
The recess measures 100mm deep and 290 wide, so went about finding a std one that might fit.
closest one i can find is for a 5h1treon c4 grand picasso at 290x96x30, Citreon 6447xf or xg, mann CU3039-2.

12£ +vat from GSF and the real treat is the C4 grand picasso or pug 3008 has two filters fitted, you get two in the box, (hence the -2 in the code) so I have one here for next year.
it's not a bad fit as it is, no need to cut down, goes in better when fitted in the original wire mesh grille though,

pull it into the corners of the mesh grille and wedge it in, the bottom windscreen trim holds it in a bit and all is well.

all pollen filtered up, for £7

if only VX/Holden could have been bothered.

o yeah, it's changed ID too.

    much better

Brakes aint here yet though :@(

brakes are imminent, AP have had a brain fart of some sort, and they are good at making people wait for the best!

yeah, of course! have done so much stuff on it I have decided to withdraw it from sale, and sold my MK2 jag instead to fund the Monaro, as that was easy to sell! although it's sorned whilst I mince with the V8.
I took it apart a bit when i got the Monaro, just to disable it for starters, and to syphon 15 galls out of it, with a view to basically to sort a few bit and pieces. have a few jobs to do to it during the winter to keep my dirty hands hobby alive. it's epic oomph wise and superb fun to own and drive, but they are very needy machines, and needs a bit of detailed looking after to keep it in the state it deserves...
new quiet spec exhaust coming on,
    belts change x 4,
some metal brake pipes need tlc,
mega spec clean underneath and restoration of a few more bits,
swap chargecooler pump to the front near side by the rad, plumb in and wire up the feed, acid flush and resurrection of the CC system,

basically, I wanted it so bad 7 years ago, so I'm vowing to keep it forever.

    Re: Pitstoppete's Monaro CV8

    Big brake update..

Finally have the whole set of HSV spec GTS AP brakes from the "specialist" after lots of faffing about and about 10 weeks, Not going into the epic story of why it's been so long, suffice to say, I always get all the bad luck and the sh1tte service, anything that can go wrong usually does and if you want something doing right, do it yourself, using a lathe usually..
Full kit though is still good value in this country considering what you get in the F/R kits, wouldn't want to buy this lot in Aus.

Anyway, all fitted now and have been out in the sun bedding them all in.

so, pics or it didn't happen -

    362x32 front discs, 6 pot calipers -

    343x28 rear discs, 4 pot calipers -

bedding in nicely as per instructions. to say they were epic already, would be a fair understatement. But, it's a heavy old hector so they were desperately required. It feels like it's ripping the tyres from the wheels TBH, have a seat belt bruise coming up on my chest from the 2 hour roar about I've just got back from. I'm sure that when they are fully bedded and I get some sticky tyres, the tide times might all change...

after all the grief, I'm loving it.
    hot bath time.

yeah, so much so I know need a spare wheel that fits over them too. a 15" 4 inch wide steely aint going nowhere near em.
bid on a BMW split rim, most of them fit.

    Re: Pitstoppete's Monaro CV8

insignia have too small centre ole' unfortunately..
    needs to be 18's minimum
BMW is same pcd and some are same offset, bigger centre hole at 72.5.
    i'm on it.
made some spigot rings as its not one you can buy in the usual places.
would like a set of BM cross spoke BBS LM type jobbies but alas only the 5 series had them in the right stylee i like and they are et20, not 47/48/50. some of the others available are alright though. one is enough for a spare to start with, but would like a full set for the summer with stickies, keep the winter M+S tyres on the std rims for the winter.
