Get too it and get it back on the road - the world needs more Vauxhall Royalty on the road and not in scrap yards being cannabalised... Good luck with it

Re: full engine rebuild - LET Calibra 4x4

thanks mate. the car will look the same as it does now and the money will be spent mostly on the engine and bay. i will get a txb locking kit and hopefully a l.s.d on the back axial.... im looking for about 300-350bhp but first i will be cleaning the casting flaws from inside the block and will be replacing the rods for better ones and replacing all the bolts for arp ones. at first i was only going to replace the rings and bearings but now im going to take my time and give it the star treatment... im still not sure about what turbo or manifold i want it to have but in time im sure ill think of something.

Re: full engine rebuild - LET Calibra 4x4

I feel what your saying, I took mine off the road so I could treat any rust I found and give it all a good clean up. then I found myself taking the engine to bits. started with oil leak. now like you its getting new this new that.
I've looked at locking the box. but mine is all working at mo. (for how much longer, I'll and no man will know) the bit that puts me off is if the car breaks down it cant be tow'd on a dolly trolly! not sure if its ok to tow with all 4 wheels on the ground or not!?
any way keep them pics coming

i want to use the same pistons because i hear there good for 500bhp so a light hone will do. im about to go on ebay now and splash some cash lol.

Same here, hone, new rings, shells and slowly going back together.
As for the max boost link, Yer its a great site. had it in my bookmarks for a few years. along with cav16 Cav16 - Cavalier/Calibra 4x4 Transfer Box Reconditioning Service
Still undecided on what to do about it, still reading this and other forums.
You going down the cosmetic gasket route?? I'm not. been looking for bottem end gaskets for a while and today this popped up.

Re: full engine rebuild - LET Calibra 4x4

when redoing the valve steam seals be sure to rap tape around the top of the valves so the seals wont get damaged when fitting. the gasket sets look good but id use a one piece sump gasket and one of those 3 layer steel head gaskets..

Re: full engine rebuild - LET Calibra 4x4

i fitted one in the past and never had any problems and i got another because i cocked up the valve steam seals.. i think i paid £30 each of ebay. there made by elring and you have to remove a couple of the brass rivets before fitting.
