looks like you been buzzy yourself mate.i went v6 becouse i think it will be more reliable and a bit less trouble ------arry
Here we go again, As some of you may have read my thread Knocking at 3000rpm.Astra MK2 Owners Club I thought I should update this. Yes the knocking is the big end I think the shells spun in the Rod, i'v now taken the engine out of the car and hope to drop it in to an engine builder I know, I'l give him a call tomorrow to see if he wants it stripped down or to check it as it is. The head turbo, starter motor are already off so he can get the piston and rod out if he needs to check them. I would prefer to leave it built up because I would be pee'd to strip it to find out its all ok and just needs a set of shell's but thats not likely to happen. Whilst dropping this off i'v also got another engine stripped which he's going to check out balance and give it back to me in kit form if you like so I can build it back up myself..
This was found in the sump

this is the first ive seen of this car and i love it, love the boot install.
old vauxhalls dont die thay just get faster.
Right about time I updated this, shortly after the pics above were taken I managed to remove the Gearbox, this has been cleaned and painted Satin Black, not sure if I should of gone traditional silver but time will tell? Comments??
My brother came over and we loaded two 1.8e stripped down bottom ends onto his trailer. And took them over to the engine builder, his 1st comment which cut deep and confirmed my worse fears was that the compression hadn't been lowered, the flywheel hadn't been lightened basically the previous engine builder had just built me a standard 1.8e engine
Not a good day.
I'v heard from him since and they have had a measure up and recon we can use Steel LET rods! They have also been busy measuring up and designing a piston which is now with WOSSNER, so two sets of those will be made and both blocks will be bored the same.
So some exciting and perhaps exspensive times ahead!!
Chris
Engine will be spot on with a proper build..
A little up date.
I popped over to see Rob at PEC, and im happy to say my new pistons have arrived
And here they are!
Just waiting on a price for other work but hopefully by the end of April this will be back on the road
They are based on the let piston, tried and tested plus it probably keeps costs down. They are 86mm.
Which I guess is a standard 16v size?
So my 1800 will be 1856cc
Chris
Just a brief update the car is at my mates garage and will be seam welded ready to take the freshly re-built engine.
Chris
