Re: My mk3 astra gsi resto begins

My m8 and myself went to collect the car today,as nothing much has been done on the car during the 6 MONTHS it has been with Tom,so it was well ovedue for us to go and collect.I ahd the luxury of cruising in my m8's Ford SVT 5.5 litre v8 suppercharged beast, all 550bhp of truck with rear wheel drive, automatic, what a beast..lol.

Anyway Tom has fitted the head, block and sump. The head was taken off and new headgasget and headbolts fitted, the valves were all cleaned /polished aswell.
Bottom arms, front anti roll bar and hubs all powdercoated and fitted up.New track control arms and ARB link arms fitted up,also all front end poly bushed aswell with Powerflex items. Rear upper and lower ARB's powdercoated and fitted up,rear calipers repainted and refitted.Rear beam powdercoated and refitted with poweflex poly bushes,Arp flywheel bolts were also fitted.Gearbox painted and fitted up,that's about it really.

Here's a few pics of the car when we first saw it ready to load onto the trailor.

Some of the powdercoating arms and arb, hubs etc.

    Thanks.Lee.

Re: My mk3 astra gsi resto begins

No driveshats or calipers up front were fitted up.We turned the wheels and this is what happened, see pics. The bearing just fell out of the hub and my wheel fell off,as a result a nice big dent in my drivers front wing, pulled the bumper corner off and pulled part of the side skirt off.Nice work Tom(eccles). He didn't charge me for any of the work he had already done on my car which included all the powdercoating and painting of parts so that was good of him.
We had to then fit the d/shaft to get the car rolling onto the trailor.

    Wiring all left

    Thanks.Lee.

I'll badger Mr Mayger to see if I can get him to sort the wiring out. I am flat out for the remaining week and a half but could take a day off and pop down and fit your inlet manifold and get the engine bay looking more complete mate. Not a drama.

Re: My mk3 astra gsi resto begins

Updates. This week I stripped out all interior and carpets etc.Had new brake pipes fitted under the car, bled through used Dot 5.1 brake fluid, had rear axle off, fuel tanks all susp and brakes.Cleaned up surface rust and schultzed the whole of the underbody including front and rear arches.Drivers outer cv gaiter replaced, exhaust refitted with new rubber hanger.Fitted new fuel filter and supprt bracket.
Water leak in footwells sorted, sealed up heater box, removed scuttle panel and resealed, bought a new cover to go over the polllen filter and wiper motor as mine was missing and most likely to have been causing the water leaks.

Today-fitted new Genuine Bosch dizzy cap and rotor arm, replaced coil, inspected leads and plugs, they look ok.I have a missfire between 3.5-4k bit cannot find the cause,it's till there, pulling my hair out now. When it happens it won't let u rev through it,it's like the car is gonna cut out completely...strange???However it doesn't happen all the time, more on part throttle but can happen on full acceleration to...weird.

Purchased new pedal rubbers to and ordered a new rear silencer heatsheild from Autovaux.
    Will get pics soon.

    Thanks.Lee.

Re: My mk3 astra gsi resto begins

Did a bit of work on the car today.Fitted new aerial seal,3 new pedal rubbers, replaced the MFD stalk, swappe d a fog lamp and new bulb fitted, fitted the cold air feed pipe, removed washer bottle, cleaned up inside and out then refitted, took the drivers door card off to look for the plugs for elec mirrors which were not present,so need door looms now from a phase 1 gsi and that was about it today.

    Here's a few pics

Interior, carpet and soundproofing removed last weekend

New Genuine Bosch dizzy cap and rotor arm fitted

New pollen filter and wiper motor cover fitted as mine was missing

Lcd clocks fitted, need to make a surround now to finish it off.

    Thanks.Lee.

Re: My mk3 astra gsi resto begins

Went to Longlife exhausts today to try and get my exhaust sorted out as it's blowing and not sitting properly,a bit of a mess really,so it's got be taken off and re assembled, then hung properly, couldn't do it today though.I have a Bastuck stainless system with decat on the car at present.

Here's a few pics of the underside since I had the floor schultzed, new brake pipes etc plus u can see some of the powdercoated parts like Arb,h frame, painted gearbox and sump etc.

    more pic in 5 mins.

    Thanks.Lee.
