mk3 gsi c20let BADGER spec build, http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/proje...dger-spec.html
Erm, not really lmao.
It's not turned a wheel in about 3 months though the "cracked head" seems to have turned out to be a bad air lock (touch wood). It still started first time after all that time though!
I've just bought some Powerflex bushes for the back but they'll probably not get fitted until about 2017 at this rate.
We'll see what happens this weekend, I might try and do something..........
^ pmsl hopefully it's just an air lock then!, will the bushes not be a complete BITCH to fit??, I have a "to do" list for this weekend although I doubt very much if half will get done let alone any!. Keep us posted fancy seeing mire on this puppy like
mk3 gsi c20let BADGER spec build, http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/proje...dger-spec.html
What are you doing for the brake upgrade? I've used some Mazda rx7 4 pots with corrado disks and a very straight forward calliper bracket. No used them yet mind lol!
Aye, there's 2 ways to do it, remove the rear axle and do a lot of unnecessary fart arsing around, or do it the "easy" way and make a tool to do it on the car. I'll be going down the easy route personally lmao.
I was going to go down the RX7 route, I think there's a guy in Dundee that has a full set up for sale I'd of got if I hadn't already spent too much on ****e this month.
What I really want to do though, is do a 5 stud conversion/16" BBS (for pub talk points) then see if 300mm Boxster brakes would fit.
What'll actually happen is entirely different though lmao.
Dont buy a set up mate. It's pi55 easy to convert to mate. I should think you can do the lot for under 100 if you shop about for the callipers etc.
Take a look at my build thread on here![]()
I'm subscribed to it, but there seems to be less updates than mine.
Depends on what you can get over there, but the Nissan 2 litre turbo has been used for some conversions, not to familiar with it but apparently 400hp is commonly reached on stock engines with turbo and cooler upgrade mapping - some getting more than that at the wheels.
I mention it because it may be a lighter and easier to package engine. Some are also using the Toyota 2 litre turbo, as found in the MR2, etc, with similar results.
As much as a Japanese engine would tick all the right boxes, I couldn't do it, it's the principle of it. I couldn't be seen to be a JDM 'hater' with a JDM engine lmao.
I've got the M62 4.4 V8, I'm currently in a bit of a dilema about engines though, I'm thinking this car should keep a 6 cyl and build a 2.8 M20 engine (2.5 engine with 2.8 crank and 2.0 rods - all I'm missing is the crank) for it, then use it as a road car. In the mean time I'd just store the M62 until the time's right and buy a 2 door shell for it.
As of mid next year I'll be in a (hopefully) much better paid job with some useful "perks". We'll just have to see what happens.
As for now, I'm off out to do my subframe bushes!
Well, yesterday I actually got the car back in action, got the new bushes fitted and super quick time thanks to my amazing tool I made.
Sorted it at around 3pm, by 6pm it was broken again, this time it was the front....
Oops, didn't quite realise how bad things were behind here!
Fortunately the worst of the rusty bits seem to just be the bolt on bits. I'll be picking up a set of 51mm struts (the bigger size from the 325/318iS) with 60mm lowering springs, shocks and top mounts early next week so it should be back in action for next weekend.
Oh, that's once I get a front tyre...... lmao
I was about to say that shock looks funked too.
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.
Just a tad lmao. 25 years and 145k have taken their toll.
Better at cardboard box's than cars.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.
Lows FTW!
Cavalier Turbo Owners Club - As long as it runs I really dont care...
Amazingly there has been quite a lot of progress with the old bus, the sensible head soon took over and the 4.4 V8 I bought from Keith was sold on, with the proceeds going towards other E30 stuff.
After a lot of thinking what I want with this car, I've decided that it's not going to be some sort of track beast nor will it be a "drift" machine. I want it to be something that I can get out on a Sunday and go for an early morning blast and actually enjoy myself with it.
It's now living somewhere (fairly) dry and without buses passing by with is nice - bonus points if you can tell me where.
Engine wise I'm building a 2.8 out of the original 2.0 block (should be getting rebored next week), it's 130mm rods, the pistons and head from my 2.5 and the crank from an M52B28 (currently lying in my hallway). I should have around 220bhp and with the gearing I'm using it'll top out in 5th at 133mph - it should accelerate quite well I hope.....
Some coilover conversion tubes arrived from Burton yesterday so when coupled with some Gaz shocks and whatever I decide to do at the back it should turn out quite nice hopefully.
I'm still trying to find some sort of brakes that rip my face off, missed out on some Group A Cosworth AP Racing 4 pots last week but I'll keep an eye out for something trick....
I'm planning on giving the car a total respray and generally make it look nice.
As it stands this is where I am....
This wasn't surprising, they all go here. There's a lot less rust than I thought I'd find though which is nice....
I started taking the carpet out nicely, until I remembered that it was getting replaced with a black one, or just a non crap one....
The oringinal injun ready for a rebore....
My only "shiny" stuff pic....

This weekend progress....
Yesterday mainly consisted of stripping down the nearside doors ready for paint and poking around with a screwdriver. Got the back window out without damage too which pleased me.
The happiness was short lived though, found more holes, some slightly worse than others.
This little hole in the battery tray should be sorted out easily
This part in the inner sill is not so good
I carried on though and cut out the foot well corner
I've found this on the bulkhead, hopefully it's not through into the engine bay
Today's progress was a bit more productive....
Old/new engine out (still working on removing the car loom!)
This needs stripped down for it's pistons and top end
Need a door too, this is too far gone I think
I acquired one of these Alpina rear spoilers from eBay the other week too
Tomorrow will involve a lot more prodding then a decision will be made whether or not to carry on with this shell (I'm actually quite attached to Steff though). Hopefully it'll not be too bad and the welding can commence!

Time for a wee update....
Not exactly a mountain of work carried out recently, it's mainly been a case of grinding back rust/underseal/stone chip. It's got to be the least glamourous part of car restoration
Also discovered some shoddy accident damage which had led to rust, in theory this will be done properly minus the use of silicon.
This week I should be beginning work on a roll over jig which should make life a lot easier!
looking good, you making the jig yourself??
Yup, I've come across some metal at work which has gone too rusty for customer jobs, it'll be more than fine for this though!
waste not want not as they say... where about do you work??
Here.... Zot Engineering
