C20LET powered, rear engined rear drive mini project

Not strictly a Vauxhall I know but plenty of Vauxhall parts in there! Just a few pictures of the progress made so far.

Spec so far is a tubular steel manifold, GT28RS, piper cams with verniers, F28 2wd converted box with paddle clutch and custom shafts, standard ecu at the moment but about to install an omex 600 pack, JE pistons and arrow rods and loads of other stuff that I've probably forgotten. Ultimatly we're looking at developing the engine up to around 550bhp with the addition of a bigger turbo, most likely a GT35 or 40 and we are also working on modifying the flywheel and gearbox input shaft to run a HKS clutch pack.

Cheers for the comments, I agree its going to be a bit twitchy to say the least. Even though the test engine thats in at the moment is only running around 350bhp, the short wheelbase and heavy arse will make for a very challenging drive. Once the engine work is complete I'm going to fabricate the rear bulkhead so as to avoid any crispy buttocks! I've got another LET that I'm building up at the moment which will be the actual engine that goes in at a later date. The target output is 450 - 500 bhp which combined with the low kerb weight should make for a rapid quarter mile. Hopefully those big back tyres will help to put the power down a bit!

Even at 350bhp i bet thats still an animal to say the least lol. Any idea what sort of times you want for a 1/4 mile?

Looking forward to the progress from this keep us updated

It'll certainly be a bit nippy. Quarter time I'm hopeing for an sub 10 second if we can get decent traction. Not sure how long the box will last to be fair as the last F28 I pushed past 400bhp lasted about eight and a half minutes before it dropped its internals all over the A127!

Stuart Meads has a sub 10 sec mini using a zetec. I went out in it when it was running a 320+ nitrous 1.9 CVH! rapid doesn't do it justice. Most scary car i've been in.

His Mini pinned me in my seat when he nailed it, doing a NOS demo for me. It was sooooooo quick! Then when he backed off he said "sorry mate i didn't have the NOS on!!!" Jesus it scared me minus the 150 nos injection!!

Re: C20LET powered, rear engined rear drive mini project

I'll get some more pictures up when I get a bit more done. In the mean time hers a few pictures of an MK3 GSI Astra that I worked on a while back. The customer got a bit carried away with the boost controller, 2.2 bar on the tell tale, with rather catastrophic results!

The top photos are from before it suffered engine failure, the ones below are the aftermath!

This happened in third gear on full boost at about 65mph. Shame really as the car was pretty mint and had great potential.

    Cool mini.

although it even makes my nova easy to work on.

make sure you look at strengthening the block if you are going for 550bhp, quite a few of us have had failures of the cylinder walls now without going much past that

My uncle suffered a broken con rod in the middle of nowhere, so he dropped the sump, lopped off the broken conrod, stuck a jubilee clip round to stop the oil coming out of the crank journal and then struggled home on three cylinders. Luckily the block was no too damaged!

Great, super, smashing marvelous mini BTW. :-)

At the time it was running piper cams, GT35 hybrid, omex management, stage three head, JE pistons and the rest of the spec I can't remember to be honest! It had a E Boost 2 controller fitted and the customer had a fiddle with it once he got used to the output at 1.7 bar, hence the damage .
