Is there any real point in this project with an 8v fitted?
By the time you have messed about with this - found out the tx box is knackered, fitted the 8v turbo kit (a hassel in itself)
you could have just bought a standard let for £1000 and achieved reliable power from a standard engine???
The 4x4 will be wasted on an 8v turbo and you may as well just buy a tidy 8v Astra gte?
The cost of repainting and rebuilding this - which looks like it needs bare shelling to be honest, you are really not going to end up with a car of any value or performance
Love the garage setup by the way!
imho you cant really apply logic like that to a project car otherwise you wouldnt even buy a 4x4 mk2 astra in the first place. the project is as much about getting there as it is the final product.
he already has a tidy 8v gte, he already has a turbo 8v. i'm not speaking for him but its known ground, and achievable.
but why 4x4 an 8v - what are you actually achiveing?
Yes its a 4x4 2.0 8v but isnt it a bit overkill?
Nice workshop setup i'd love something like that for my projects rather than slugging it out on the driveway!
Keep it up this will be awesome when it's finished.
Custom C20LET/Z20LET Inlet manifolds from £250, XE/LET baffle sumps £50, Re-flanges, EVO TD05 turbo conversions, aluminium & stainless steel TIG welding, pm for requirements
Thanks for the comments guys this is what a forums about some positive some negative views. At the end of the day its personal choice! Yes a LET would maybe be less hastle but its been done before, Were as an 1800 Turbo'd 4 wheel drive wide arched GTE will be different. At least give me a chance then you can say I told you so!!
This is my other 1800,
I'l try my best to do it right.

i read that vauxhall made a prototype 4x4 chassis for the mk2 astra when they were doing R+D for the upcoming GTE16v, to try and tame the power! obviously wasnt cost effective.
question though, what was the first ever 4 wheel drive vauxhall ? 2.0 8v mk3 cavalier... surely thats a waste with only 115bhp ?
Oh I always thought they were 16v! Even my little 8v Turbo produces 16v power, perhaps a little more. So with a reasonable Turbo i'd like about 200bhp not much of an ask. Plus with the help of screamer 69 and some management perhaps a bit more..They are a torque little motor! Thanks for comments earlier.
Do you fancy a trip to Essex to do some welding for me?

On the 8v turbo front screamer69 runs a website www.vaux-extreme.com loads of info, can't register at the moment due to spammers,
There's a couple of guys on there at the moment that have got amazing results with standard management. But that's a while of yet aye lol,
It is an awesome project to undertake just wish I had the room to do some thing similar.
Sorry mate, didnt mean to cause offence and cause trouble lol just wondering, and yea i know what you mean Lets are very overpriced imo (although are good) Definately interested to hear more on the 2.0 8v turbo, as not clued up on it at all, although i have heard many things about that yellow 2.0 8v turbo. Would love to maybe turbo my 1.6 8v in the near future in my nova, would love to see your turbo'd astra sometime anymore pictures of it matey

awesome looking project mate, wish the scrap yards round my way had stuff like that in. nice workshop to i lke the idea of 8v turbo instead of let it nice to see something a bit different. are you keeping the wide arches or going for standard looks. i would go for standard looks
apparantly it was the test bed for the forthcoming cavalier gsi 2000 4x4, so it was only available in saloon shape, F20 + the weaker transfer box. the 8v versions just looked like a cavalier LS but had a little 4x4 badge on the back. i'll come to essex (i was in rayleigh on sunday !) but i am not a skilled welder lol !
