Great project but I echo what's been said. Hammerite/Smoothrite is ****e for painting parts like that. Not only is it much tinner than it used to be but it also chips and flakes badly. You'd be much much better using a proper chassis paint. I'm using Tetrosyl Chassis Black thinned down 10 - 20% then strayed with a compressor and it's so so much better than the Smoothrite I tried first. Trust me, it'll be worth it in the long run plus it's a feck load cheaper too!

Hi all, i'v had a day off from the project today but friday avo I spent underneath cleaning off the floorpan, and yesterday I continued until I wore out the new wire wheel I was using.
    I'v been in agony today.
Anyway heres what it looks like now

Oh yeah I forgot I blew the bloody doors off,lol

Oh yeah and cleaned up the front wishbones again.

Need to get another wire wheel to finish off the rear.
    Thanks for looking.

Yes mate absulutely covered in crap. The old stuff turns into cobwebs before it comes off. then theres the old oil. A nasty job but nearly done. A few small holes to weld up and one large one. Will need to move the axle stands to totally crack it. The vibrations from the grinder dont half hurt my hands I now feel old.

    Cheers for all the comments

Sorry Gary this wont have the kit on it as I sold it a few months ago.
But i'v sourced a few bits mainly a complete 1.8 Turbo Tecnics kit, I got it from Dougie X Editor of TV, I'v had it a few wks and have only just unpacked it. I have two inlet manifolds a 1.8e head a Garrett T2 turbo? pipes. sump, wiring cam, electric's.
Also this wk I popped down to PEC to see Rob and my piston's have been made by Wossner loosley based on a LET Piston 1st engine to get them will be my White GTE bit of a guinea pig! Heres some pic's but none of the TT kit.

I'v had a few parts arrive bottom ball joints for the front wishbones, Steering rack (none power steering one) I'm following the essex GTE trend of minimal bits in the engine bay lol.
And a pair of 4x4 rear cross member bushes.
    And bump stops.
I also tidied up the front drivers side it needs a bit of tlc.
    Here's some pic's

Do these bolts come out normally or are they available from vauxhall?

I'm starting to build up the rear end, still need a drive shaft thou.

    Thanks for looking.

Hi Mate, good work and good progress, nice to see something different. I got told about this thread on mk3oc as I'm building a mk3 GSi with 4wd conversion, I've had a read through last night, and I'll probably re-read it again.

    Cheers . Jim

Thanks Jim for taking the time to have a read thru there's a few 4x4 Mk3s already on mig, which keep me inspired to carry on with my one
Do you have a build thread on yours if so could you put a link up?

This is my OD on mk3oc. It's been built using the mk3 floorpan with the calibra setup, rather then the floorpan conversion.

I'v been very lapsed with this with the wife wanting bits done in the house, plus my other cars playing up. I'v had to have my MK1 Escort at home for the last wk or so as someone decided to break the lock on the garage where it lives. Then the starter motor on that decided to fail. All fixed now The new GTE also decided to play up a new fuel filter sorted that out.
The white GTE was delivered to my mates garage to have the engine bay strenghened.
And now its the weekend, my step daughters 18 tomorrow so I doubt i'l get anything done this weekend but fingers crossed.
I am concidering selling this project
My brother said to me dont be hasty and wait til the better weather. He's probably right...
