    Re: 1400 Corsa Rally Car

long time without much updating, not really had time as i was literally flat out on the car trying to get it ready for the mull rally...which i did! we made it. sadly tho we had to retire on stage 7 when the adaptor holding the oil pressure sensor onto the block seared for the 2nd time. it was originally on an elbow, along with oil temp sensor, but that sheared on stage 2, we made it back to service without any drop in pressure and managed to reconfigure it without the temp sensor. sadly the other fitting also sheared on stage 7 and we lost pressure. i couldnt afford to risk my engine so it was switched off and coasted to the next passing place

made it back out for the saturday night trophy rally (for crews who retire from main rally but can repair cars and want to gain some mileage) and finished 4th out of 10 starters, behind a focus WRC, silly quick 205 and a fiesta ST. we were the first car home in our class out of 4 by over a minute too, so i was happy with that.

heres a couple of pics of the car finished and ready to go, not all the sponsors stickers are fitted in this pic so i'll need to get some nice new pics for the sponsors this week! the benefits of not crashing eh?

and a few on event shots...

as you can imagine, after its first trip out i have a nice long list of things to change, improve and fix for next time. so i'll be sure to detail them in here a bit better than ive been doing recently.

    Re: 1400 Corsa Rally Car

well then, been neglecting this thread majorly so got a few wee updates to share.

first up, another pic ive found of us competing on mull in the cars debut, if this is where i think it is its the cars very first stage!

after that i didnt do too much work on the car, just got it tidied up a bit and put it into storage. i entered the grant construction stage at knockhill at the start of january, which was alot of fun. we finished 17th overall and first in our class by i think 2 minutes. had a really good day, track was incredibly slippery and we had plenty of opposite lock moments and ended up backwards off duffus dip at one point after a fairly adventurous outbraking/inside overtaking moment... never found footage of it but theres bound to be something...

lamp pod is left on in this pic as it was on for scrutineering where i had troubles with a screen heater i had fitted, it kept leaking, so was too busy sorting that to remove lamps. it failed again at the end of ss1 and we managed to blank it off and keep going. will need some improvement while the car is being rebuilt

got some crackin pics of the car sitting in service thanks to mr turbodave (2dd-turbodave on here i think??) which im quite fond of.cheif spanner man garyvaux caught during a rare moment of service work in pic 1

so with knockhill out of the way the car was treated to a full cleanup, pleased to say theres barely even a scratch on the car so it still shines pretty well! have treated it to a new reg aswell.

    Re: 1400 Corsa Rally Car

so on to the current situation. the car is fully stripped ready for all the teething problems to be ironed out a few nice little upgrades which will inevitably take a fair chunk of time to compete as i cant justify throwing every penny at the car again for another year...

so far ive purchased a 6 speed F20 quaife dog box, quiafe shifter and linkage kit, harry hockly group A driveshafts, harry hockly group A mounts and still need to get a new clutch kit and group A hubs over the next couple of months before that side of things will be complete. i got a clutch plate with the box but for peace of mind id rather buy new, fit and forget, plus it will leave me with a spare clutch should i ever require one...

interior is stripped out also as im going to be doing some welding, both to allow fitment of the bulkhead bearing housing for the group A shifter and to sleeve the steering rack mounts, to avoid shearing the standard studs. while this is getting done im going to re-do my seat mounts, as they were done in a rush to allow me to paint the car and ive never been happy with them. theyre large heavy boxes and will require a large section of floor to be replaced, and i will then fit the conventional rails. thats the plan...

    car currently sits like this...

as the dash and wiring are out i plan on making a few changes to them also, including remaking some of the loom in sections to ease work on the car and fitting a digital dash setup hopefully. dash wise i am going to get everything flocked, and try to get a few nice carbon bits fitted. already got carbon blank to fit where the clocks live and plan to get a centre console and footwell liners too.

im also going to be changing the doors for new ones ive picked up, to allow me to fit doorcards, as ive never liked the fully stripped doors it has now. i have a plan in my head for how these will look so look out for that at some point also half way thru making some stubby cup style mirrors which will hopefully turn out decent, seems to be slightly easier to do on the corsa mirrors than the nova ones i did before.

thats all for now! i'll try and keep this a bit more current from now on.

    Re: 1400 Corsa Rally Car

aye, realistically i cant afford to use the car this year, and even after that its only going to be used on rare occasions, so im going to plod away and get it exactly as i want it. thankfully i get as much enjoyment out of upgrading it and making it better, functionally and aesthetically, as i do using it. hopefully by the end of the year it will be a nice(r) bit of kit!

dave that mirror looks alot like mine will, altho i think mine might be slightly narrower. theyre quite easy to keep the adjustment in too which is nice. might even try and get the outers made in carbon at a later date seeing as how im rapidly turning into a bit of a carbon tart

    Re: 1400 Corsa Rally Car

anyone got corsa wiring diagrams on file? preferably 93-97 models. on a wee hunt for some to have on the laptop as flicking through the haynes everytime is a bit impractical. even just diagrams for individual circuits would be magic.

    cheers

Got a scanner for your PC/laptop? They're dead cheap and you can just copy the circuit diagrams/schematics as a high definition PDF or other format - also means you'll be able to zoom in for the hard to read bits.
