*Edit* Had planned to get a Corsa. Ended up with a Nova, instead. Never mind .
After getting shot of the Corsa, i'd bought for a tenner a while back.
Wanted to build a project car again (after Astra CDX I had), this time it wouldn't be a my everyday car. Melv's Corsa and Jack's old Corsa project had been giving me ideas too lmao.
So I bought a 20XE off a friend.
It's needs a good amount of work as the woodruff key snapped and mashed half the vavles:doh:. But with block, loom, ECU and a F20 it only stung me £60. So i'll spend a bit of time rebuilding the XE. Even managed to get a Corsa/Nova XE exhaust manifold too.
Then started looking for a shell for this lot. Thought I’d stuck lucky again with a chance of a black Corsa Sport. Even better was the 1.6 was shot too. Price of it too was VERY keen at £150 with some goodies attached to it. Had to pay it up though as my other car needed tyres at the time. No front seats either, gutted! Some really nice Cobra buckets too .
Then a surprise when the guy I bought the car from told me what it had nailed on to the 1.6.....
Which changed my plans. As I now quite fancy a X16XE now and the Sport shell is not the greatest either .
So i'm going to look out for another Corsa and break the Sport. That said i'm not in rush either. Which means it'll be slow progress for the time being.
He bought that out of scrapyard a few years ago. A reg so makes it a quite a late MK1. It gonna be an nice car when finished (when he pulls his finger out :lmao: ).
After Crail. I took another trip down to where the car was kept for me hols again.
Cavalier was off the road for wee bit of work, had to use the Nova. All was fine, until the temp guage went off the scale. Bugger head gasket was gone typical!! On the Jubilee weekend too.
Luckly for me there was a motor factors open AND they had head set in stock. Result!
With a makeshift shelter.
We got the job done. Gotta love the OHV's, easy to work on and hardy little buggers.
Also quite busy collecting some parts too.
GM Rear panel and front towing eye/Chassis leg section.
Then some front end sheet metal. (Done for 'lolz')
Another set of shoes for when I want a change from the spokes.
Nah, after maket stuff bud. TBH the front wings are pish quality. Same for the front panel, just made of paper. But it's better than nothing, might change the front panel at some point now I have it.
Shame the shell was rotten. That would of been a good home for a spare XE.
Nevermind, it was a 1.4 Auto. Deal was done and engine bought. I now have a C14SE for the Nova, gave up looking for a X16XE. Happy with the choice, as I got the chance to find out the car ran like a sweetie. Think double the BHP will be plenty :lmao:.
I now also own the special tools for changing 8v cams in stiu. So might chuck in the fast road cam I have sat.
Couldn't beleve my luck when I saw it. I spoke the yard owner and ask him to keep it aside for me and he even took it out for me.
Hoping with it being an Auto the engine it's in a fit state. It didn't blow reek or chap like a good 'un. But was told is was old boy owned, did look after it. Only scrapped due to being rotten in every place a MK3 Astra goes.
Think that was my plan along. Just a wee toy that can provide a bit of fun on a nice twisty road and still be easy to work on.
Could of thrown in a 2.0 8v or XE, but I love the buzzy nature of the car at the moment. Hope the 1.4 will add to it.......
Plus no Points ignition to worry about :face: :lmao:.
Have started to tear down the 1.4. It's a joy to work on, so far!! Hope to future proof the new lump too. New head gasket, water pump and timing belt kit to fit. Set of ARP rod bolts could be on the shopping list.
Not sure on what gearbox to use yet, got a F13 out of a Corsa SRi 16v. But thinking of using a F10, but with a 5th speed. It's hard work with just four.
Me and Curtis had a bit of a 'lol' over the reverse light a while back. Shocked at how long the printed vinyl has lasted on those lights.
Went to the scrappies again, for a rake about and strip more parts off the rather bare 5dr Nova in there. Came away with good scuttle mesh trims, header tank and all the coolant hoses bar the top rad one for a 1.2. should help to pipe up the 1.4.
Met Melv there, again thanks for helping out and a loan of tools dude .
Ta folks. Polski- I been looking if anyone had taken pics of the Nova at the meet, still nothing lol.
I'd forgoten all about this thread lmao. TBH i've done bugger all to the Nova, except drive it. It's going to get some attention over the winter. It's become my daily driver now, after I got a Civic VTI that I soon found out it had 'issues'.
Nah, nae keeping the Civic. Fed up with it, think these Honda motor cars are a tad over rated. Up for sale atm and another Vauxhall has been bought for daily duties.
for some reason i cant help but think ive seen this thing razzing about somewhere like, possibly in fife near crail. im down near dundee. but looks like a braw wee motor, and itll be great fun with the 1.4
always fancied a nova, but recently decided that it should be a saloon
Thanks . Should really get on with sorting out the 1.4, it's been sat on that stand for too long now :lmao:.
I think another Miami blue Nova lives about your way. As I did see it at Crail, last time I was there.
