    Calibra z20net install

This project is now underway with the bringing home of the Vectra C (2003) engine from my works where I had it delivered. I've made various holes in the black plastic cling film it's wrapped in to get a peek at it and it looks gorgeous. I really had to fight the urge to get stuck in tonight and do something but after a Billing weekend and going back to work yesterday and a busy week ahead it's best I leave it alone otherwise I wont be able to stop.
I don't expect it to be finished this year - but early next year - I don't intend to set any unrealistic schedules. Basically plod along doing what I can when I can and getting the bits I need and overhaul, restore and paint them as necessary.
Next on the shopping list is an AF23 gearbox and then an intercooler and so on and so forth right up to the aftermarket management system.

This is the engine and you've seen nearly as much of it as I have.

Is that the turbo engine from the Vec C? Based on the 2.2 engine?

That's basically it - Vectra C 2.2 stroked down to 2.0 and then turbo'd. It was developed by GM, SAAB and Vauxhall jointly and it's an all aluminium engine with induction to front and exhaust to rear.
Existing management pretty much unusable due to CAN-bus and other problems but aftermarket management really opens it up and makes it a very versatile engine.
Good for 170BHP in standard trim with 220BHP after basic remap. It has up to about 330BHP potential before you have to worry too much about strengthening internals.

I don't want to set too many unrealistic targets so at the moment the aims are just to get it in, running reliably at about 220BHP and continue to use the Calibra as my daily transport.
That is until something like a Skoda Octavia burns me off and then a rethink might be in order - until then I'll keep it manageable.

Good choice, reliability is a main factor which needs to be thought about especially as a main daily driver also. 220hp is not a bad figure at all mind. Will look forward to seeing the progress

Thanks - won't be much happening for a while as I amass what I need - will mainly be cleaning down and painting etc. I'll update as I go.

    Re: Calibra z20net install

I have decided to change original plan of staying automatic and go the manual gearbox route -so managed to track down a f23 with only 30k miles on it along with all the linkages required -plus pedals from a Vectra B as the box is hydraulic.
So far I have the engine, gearbox etc cat back 75mm exhaust system and I'm about to order Emerald ECU.
I still have a shed load of stuff to get but it's a manageable list - bit by bit. I'm selling stuff on ebay and virtually buying what I need immediately so the money doesn't get frittered.
In the mean time while I'm measuring mountings and getting together reams of information The Beast from the East is getting beautified by Dynamo Darren (can't remember his user name on MIG) - what started as just a rear wing blow-in seems to have spread to much, much more - no rust or damage just cosmetic.
He would paint it a different colour every week if I let him - he loves it - that boy was born to spray.

Cracking work. Is the engine the same found in vectra c 100 editions or what ever there called. I'm sure they love this lump in the states as there's a us ecotec forum and loads of tuning parts about there.

Yes - I'm sure it's the same engine - it's the 2.0 Turbo. There is mega amounts of equipment from the USA available for it - but ironically the best wide band lambdas are from Australia.

They are just as I put in an earlier post really - Vectra C 2.2 (and as Bluecorsab says , the Signum) stroked down to 2.0 and then turbo'd. It was developed by GM, SAAB and Vauxhall jointly and it's an all aluminium engine with induction to front and exhaust to rear.
Existing management pretty much unusable due to CAN-bus and other problems but aftermarket management really opens it up and makes it a very versatile engine.

Every thing is electric - power steering, throttle etc - and it's coil on plug. Really just (just!) a case of taking these things off and replacing with manual/cable - and hence the need for Vectra B pedals and eventually a Ford coil pack and leads.

What? EDIS? What's wrong with keeping the COP? Or using a Vauxhall coilpack with wasted spark?

all i know about EDIS is that it doesnt require any camshaft signal therefore no cam sensor is needed so you just use a trigger wheel.

am i right in thinking the z20net is basically what they used in the vectra touring cars?? minus the turbo odviosly... i heard it was a SAAB lump but i know that the z20net is used by SAAB anyways in the 95

Going with recommendations of Emerald regarding coil pack and that COP can still be used but not as reliable as coil pack.

I won't need a trigger wheel as the crank already has 60-2 set up as required.
Not sure about the Vectra touring cars - but SAAB do use the same lump but with another number and different cams and achieve about 20BHP more.
