have changed the radius to 1810 as per the measurement. will also try it switched off see what happens. reckon i will also do some data logging this weekend on it see what that shows up. its definitely not right. 40mm doesnt seem a massive difference to me though. unless it constantly thinks its in 3rd or 2nd gear maybe.

    Re: corsa booster

went to the local drag racing at kirkbride in cumbria today. started raining which was a bit of a shame later in the afternoon.

my mate johnathan had painted his mk1 escort on friday night. he was also running a gt40 replica in the morning. its a kit car with a ford v8. looks very good. sounds quite nice.

how the team rolled up to sign on for the day. tbh, i felt quite a bit out of place following them 2 cars into the air field.

johnny off for a run. managed a mid 13 with a weak launch due to it not being his own car. gear stick is on the right which id imagine would take a bit of getting used to.

the mk1 managed a 14.0 which is a shade slower than last time it was running. its just a std cosworth v6 engine on a dta s80 ecu. there isnt really any cold air ducting for the intake so he sorted that out later on in the evening.

corsa was being a pain. definitely now hits full boost on the strip. basically span for 90% of the 1/4 mile getting grip late on in 4th and in 5th. a friend of mine has some videos will post them when she uploads them. tyres just smoked like mad through 3rd and begining of 4th. best was a 12.5 @ 127 which considering the grip it didnt have, im well amused with that time. 60ft were 2.3. its not the best of surface, just its local so may as well have some fun. won its class anyway. got some 215 50 15 r888s to try for tomorrow.

then bbq time. my catering qualifications (no ****, ive got nvq level 2) came in handy.

    i enjoyed my own cooking.

mate noel has turbo'd his civic ready for tomorrow with some amazing bodge style conversion. see how long it lasts.....

the mk1 got some headlights and the front grill fitted. looks great. ready to go back to kirkbride tomorrow if its dry enough and try and beat our times from today. hopefully get some videos tomorrow.

will see. trying to scrape enough funds together to try and make pvs, but that is looking unlikely as well at the moment.

    Re: corsa booster

probably not going to make pvs. its just too expensive. i need 2 tyres for the front of the corsa which depending on what i get around looking at about 110-150 each. to cover that and pvs weekend would cost me around 400-500 quid. trying to manage it, but its highly doubtful. probably miss trying out for totb again.

    Re: corsa booster

got some new tyres from work. 205/50/15 yoko a048. work out about 135 each roughly which i think is a decent enough price. micky thompson et's were going to be about 350 for the pair hence going for the yoko's instead.

painted up some spare jacking point covers i had to replace the ones that had fallen off/gone missing/been removed while i wasnt watching by chavs......

then had a pleasant saturday evening. driving home from a mates house about midnight, car decided it wanted to become a 3 cylinder. had a look at it tonight, spark plug on cylinder 1 was a bit fouled up. changed it, still didnt seem any better. plug was damp.

gave it a compression test. 11 bar cylinder 1, 2,3,4 were all 10bar bang on. bit further investigation, and it looked like the damp plug was actually water. check dip stick and header tank and it looked like head gasket had gone.

so on a sunday evening, nothing better to do i guess.

off it goes. head looks fine. everything else looks fine. pretty much had only just gone on the last mile or so before my house on the drive home.

probably the worst picture in the world as some reason couldnt get the phone to focus where i wanted it to.

this is the first time in 4 years roughly the engine has had to come to bits. its done alright. first fault since the oil pump about 3 years ago.

will order bits up on tuesday, hopefully get it sorted this week and can then get sorting out a trip to the pod.

Any idea how many miles it's done in the 4 years?

    It's done well what ever.

Does the trip to the Pod mean PVS, or RWYB?

somehwere over 20k miles. its been used through floods, -16 degrees of winter, in the snow, 1/4 miles, track day, driven up and down the country etc in it.

be a rwyb, but not sure when now. i cant make the dates for pvs as i have other stuff going on next weekend. try and get pod by end of this month though.

    That is very impressive TBH.

I wouldn't mind going up for a proper RWYB day in mine, I'll see if Dale will come up with Monty.

    Re: corsa booster

slightly regret saying its only a head gasket and will be grand......but first......

with the trip to santa pod from sunny cumbria this saturday about to happen, got the yoko's fitted to my wheels at work ready for action (i thought)

a collection of replacement parts arrived to tackle the job.

decided i would remove the bulkhead sound deadening to save a bit of weight.....

nice of vauxhall to forget to paint behind it.

painted it with halfords smoke grey. i took the picture from a distance so the runs arent as visable. nice it looks from a few foot away.......

decided to drop the oil ready before putting head back on. a mate sent me a text message so i decided to read it and forgot to move the tub. had some cleaning up to do. thanks kurt you burk.

    getting there.

job done. now to start it at midnight and annoy my neighbours. well, this is where it all went a bit wrong. started up fine. then it was back, just not firing properly on 4. rev it up, and it cleared itself and sounded ok and seemed to run fine. took it down the road gently, and then it was on and off between 3-4 cylinders. steaming out the back again. back home whipped plug out of no1 and its damp with water again. so all that effort, and we think the head is porous. when cleaning it to put it back on, it had a mark where it had gone through gasket last week. we thought about it, said **** it, looks like it will be ok. well, guess it wasnt.

so now to repeat the process all over again. have the head pressure checked. then sorted and skimmed and try again. so thats a thursday night wasted. but i guess we had to really if we were going to make the 4am trip to pod this saturday. now ive got a lie in, then stripping a corsa. again.

worst thing is that i was only going to santa pod to try and run some times on a proper drag strip see if can make it into the totb team. so thats out of the window until next year now.

    awesome.
