Woohoo!

im sure ive took a photo like that at some point lmao
long live cavaliers
130.4! quite good for it's age, only lost 5.5hp if i recall the X20XEV stats, the colour should come up nicely after a good polish with g4![]()
Nice figure that. They are 135 from factory so i would be happy with that. A nice colour too mate. Any plans for engine tuning or body wise ??
Had a peek though the history, seems it's last recorded cambelt change was 46k ago... that gives me something to do then lmao
Got round to doing it over the weekend... it got new cambelt, waterpump, oil, coolant, thermostat, spark plugs (well those two I took off the 1.8), plus I whipped the rocker cover off and smeared some RTV on the gasket in an attempt to get it to seal better. Probably hasn't worked lmao
Keep up the work mate. Any plans on engine tuning or styling mate ??
Styling wise, apart from the rust, it looks good as it is
Tuning wise, not likely, it's a runabout lmao
Complete and utterly standard X20XEV
I tried sealant on the mk4's rocker cover when it started weeping, despite it being a fairly new gasket. Made it pour out instead. New gasket seems to have sorted it.
They're there, in their room.
Balls, as I suspected! Will keep an eye on it 'til the weekend then.
always fit the gaskets dry n while engine is cold
this as always worked 4 me
vec-c 1.9cdti 150 remap 190bhp
Well as expected the RTV plan didn't work. Never mind.
Word of advice to anyone, don't bother trying with sealant!
- It wont' work
- Cleaning it all off after you realise (1) is a bitch!
As you can see, it's not exactly a concourse lump, and this was after I pressure washed it when I first got it:
Not bad for what was most likely 100k of neglect:
Don't want the new gasket to go the same way, so I have been quite careful, even down to the point of using a torque wrench on the bolts lmao
Dan tried that too...

I dare any of you to tell me you wouldn't let this upstanding young citizen slob on your knob like corn on the cob.
Well since changing the rocker cover gasket, the car hasn't actually moved (in fact, it had stood for a few days before doing that as well) lmao
Whilst doing it I noticed that the crank sensor wiring wasn't looking too clever, and the more I investigated it, the more the insulation crumbled into dust
I tried repairing it to tide me over, but it really was a losing battle, the large tape covered bit in the middle was all bare wires lmao
Managed to replace it in 20mins without touching anything else (yeah, I rock), does mean I had to reroute the cable though as it wont go back behind the PAS mount without unbolting it all, and I couldn't be doing with that on a rainy Saturday.
Due to lack of movement, the damned thing wouldn't start after all this (I mostly blame the Clifford, the old MK3 would stand around for ages and start first time) so had to grovel to the missus to jump me off the Fiesta. In doing so I promptly created a positive earth vehicle due to not paying attention
Still, no harm done to either car and all is well.
Considering people tend to have to have the 'huuurr Ecotecs r ****' attitude, it really is quite nippy and smooth to drive. Bit rough and ready sounding, but that's older Vaux's all over![]()
I love the Ecotec in my Mk4, smoothest idling engine I have ever experienced, including this AMG Merc we got at work as a hire car (by accident we think).
They're there, in their room.
Fitted something horrible at the weekend... an 82° thermostat!
Now, I'm not an idiot and know these are mostly a waste of time, but not in this case. My car with a standard 92° 'stat for some reason will sit at 95/96° and will trip the fan often. Strange. Did all the usual stuff, flushed out the system good, tried another 'stat, no change.
Did some reading, spoke to someone with an identical running X20XEV and decided it was worth a try. Fitted it and had a quick blast on the motorway... BAM! 90° on the gauge now. Go figure.

Thankyouverymuch![]()
Shiny new drop links fitted today, think track rod ends are next on the list, do look a little on the perished/crappy side.
Yes. Yes they were.
Passengers one was proper fecked. The ball joint required nothing to get it out, just undid the nut and it was out lmao
On the plus side, it was proper easy, nothing was seized up. Drivers one looked a lot newer than the passengers, but of course, changed it anyway.
