cool cant wait, are you going to have to run shortened k&n style filters because of the amount of room there is?

    Re: gsxr quad

i hope you intend putting the strength back into the steering head as there isnt much holding it to the rest of the frame anymore. could be pretty painfull with all that extra power

    Re: gsxr quad

dont worry, i've put alot of thought into that

the engine mounts are on the side of the engine, when i put that bit of the frame back in its going to wrap around either side of the engine both securing the engine and providing twice the amount of bracing than there was originally

just heading off to do some work on it and the escort so should be posting up some progress tonight or tomorrow

    Re: gsxr quad

not too much to add but i've made mountings for my enigne loom, ecu, rectifier etc, got the battery mount sorted,

i also got the engine lined up spot on for the chain, sits over in the frame a bit due to the sprocket being inside the swingarm instead of the usual place on the outside

i made up and welded into place the rear engine mount and started measuring up the left hand side mount and frame

    Re: gsxr quad

got some more progress at the weekend

i made and fitted the left rear engine mount and welded a plate in to make my seat quick release, all welding is done with an arc welder

also i have made up my left engine mount it is also one of the parts i am using to put strength back into the frame after cutting the spine out

and here is the engine all bolted up on the left engine mounts,

i still have to cut down the front bar, make my fuel tank from scratch, fit the wiring loom which i have already mocked up, also i need to figure out where i am going to fit my battery,

p.s i know its not the best looking but the aim of this project is to refine my fabrication skills

    Re: gsxr quad

    an idea:

you could get all the parts from the bike and do a kind of kart or kartcross of whatever with a wider track..

you can use the weells, suspension and all that stuff but with a built chassis, WIDER, and fit a steering wheel and a bucket seat

its just an idea! this is fine but i think the chassis is the weakest link...

it will be a nice engine and hard to play with, it will turn over easy, will be great just in straight line fun..

my opinion, but the best is that you have fun building it!

    Re: gsxr quad

it was originally going to go into a buggy, but i had this quad knocking about then the coil pack died so i binned the engine from it and started fitting this one,

i dont reckon it'll be that slow in the corners but obviously it isnt going to corner at 70-80mph,

i will do a buggy when i have the time, this is a little side project, helping my mate build his saxo from scratch, build my escort and working so not got much time to build a frame from scratch

looks insane!! Will the steering not be really heavy with such wide front wheels?
