Talking Corsa B C14SE SRi rep PROJECT

Well bought a Corsa yesterday to run through the rest of winter so I could clean my Nova up, Its a Corsa Swing fitted with a C14se engine and box out of a SRi and has a stainless cat back + GSi interior.

I was impressed when I got there, looked fairly clean and had never been welded and was nearly rot free (bar one small section on the sill). Towed it home and then things turned sour!
Took the car for a spin and it lost drive!!! First I thought it were the clutch then it became clear it was final drive related... As everything looked ok from the outside I decided to wip the engine and box out ( wouldn't of bothered but the car was a nice example and I wanted to save it from the crusher )

Got the lump out and relised what had happened, turned out the last 5 mm of the drive shaft had broke and was wedged in the planet gear in the diff thus stopping drive.
I guess the drive shaft was not in all the way and when it was in lock it had come out enough to put all the load on the last 5mm (seems they only drive on around 12mm of planet gear anyway)!

So while its apart am going to fit a new clutch, cambelt and head gasket and paint everything up nice.

I took all the engine out today, sanded the bay and painted. Will hopefully get engine in next weekend.

    Any way heres some pics

    On the way home

    Engine out

    Sanded down

    Brush primed

    Sanded and painted

    How I left it

Very happy with results so far, will clean up engine and bloke in the week and paint.

Plans are to get SRi badges, bump strip, spoiler, colour coded wing mirrors, Corsa 1.4 Si badge (basically everything to make it look like and original from the outside)
And then register it as a 1400

Should hopefully be on the road in a month then i can have a clean and tidy corsa

What do you guys think ?

Keeping it standard engine wise other than Induction kit and 4 branch,

Cheers, the silverlineing is the fact that I can do the headgasket etc now and know its going to be fine + it will look fairly good under the bonnet

What method did you paint the engine bay with, brushed, spray can etc.
I have a bit of rust in my bay so when i remove engine next i want to be sorting it.

As for the car its a good buy, love the corsa in this colour

I wirewheeled the big bits of rust off, then used a palm sander (this tuck about 1/2 and hour) then degreased it all, brushed the bare areas, lightly sanded, sprayed with a rattle can, the a good coat of lacquer.
Only took about 2 hours to do the hole thing !

What did you do with the rack, wires, cables etc mate. How did you cover them up.
Im looking at doing mine now the next few weeks. My slam panel is the worst.

I didnt mate , I pulled the wires out the way and sprayed round them, I didnt spray near the rack and only did a small piece of the bulk head , basically I only sprayed the bits which were in primer. The bulkhead was good enough not to touch (you cant see it anyway) I masked the odd little bit but nothing much I just didnt't rust patches ... and thats the reason I painted the bits I did

My slam panel was bad aswell

Ahh ritee no worries. Only the top of the bulkhead is bad and the slam panel so i wont have much to do myself then. Cheers for that. Give me the will to go do it now haa.

Right well when I got home today I degressed the block and wirebrushed it. Then gave it a lick of VHT Red Lacquer...

And I also removed the throotle body and gave it a good clean
    No pictures of this though.
Will hopefully get the head off tomorrow

nice project, cant beat a bit of cleaning and painting to freshen things up. Block looks good, and genuine vauxhall oil filter, always a good sign when buying a car Shame about the shaft mishap, but i suppose it was the excuse neededfor the wee rebuild

Re: Corsa B C14SE SRi rep PROJECT

Well been working flat out every night noe, got it all painted and ready to stick back in tomorrow morning!

    Inlet manifold painted gun metal

Head in silver, resitted all the valves and decoked the hole thing

Head on, spent ages cleaning the cam cover with thinners as it had been painted white and looked terrible, as you can see the original colour is in perfect condition!

    Trial fit of the Manifold,

Well tomorrow is the big day so will hopefully get some good photos for you then !
