    Re: Corsa B 1994

    Little update .........

Spent an hour on the car just now in the freezing winds haa. Managed to get the engine and box out
And also removed the interior wiring ready to fit the new one later on
The car is now sitting like a tractor at the front haa

Im debating now weather to go and pick up a x18xe, what gearbox will be best to use on the x18xe if i get it. Will my gearbox off my x14xe be any good (not sure what box it is mind)

Also any advice on these wheels/springs issue i have

Will i get a good finish if i spray the plastic bumpers and wing mirrors mate.
Just been offered a good deal on a engine too.

X18XE engine, loom and ECU for £250
What else will i need for the conversion ??
Obviously a gearbox but i can get them easy.
What driveshafts will i need ??

Also would i have to uprate my fuel pump or is the 1.2 pump capable ??
Spraying is something that takes alot of practice, maybe try the mirors, but id get somebody to do the bumpers etc.

Gearbox, either an F13cr or F15cr (corsa sport/sri/gsi) and same for the drive shafts.
You will need an MPI fuel pump (also found in corsa sports etc)
Mounts will be the std ones from the 1.2
If its an earlier x18 it should have a throttle cable (later ones were electronic)

With renault wheels its the offset thats usually the problem (so stick out further in the arch) personally id sel then and buy some original vauxhall alloys, or some aftermarket ones with pcd 4x100, offset et45-49 and 6 or 6.5" wide, you will have no problems with rubbing, even with 4 passengers.
Also take the top bolt out of the rear arch trims, as the nut can catch on the tyres

they'll fit will be loose around the hub i might be wrong, but you might get a wheel woble from em.

I fitted just the alloy earlier and it fits ok, and came off a corsa autograss car so must be ok. Im just worried about the lowering springs with the alloys. I dont want to be going down 60mm to find that the wheels will rub the arch

I have sprayed a good few things with spray can but never get the proper finished look. tried all sorts, just wondering if i could get a pro finish with a gun as my step dad has one you see haa.

Yehh its the early engine so it has the throttle cable, i would have thought a F18, F20, F23 or F28 would be better with the x18xe engine.
Wont the engine mount be different tho as the engine is exactly the same shape block as the c20xe and LET iirc.

Arghh dont sayy tha about the wheels, im in love with them and only just bought them haa. I dont fancy getting rid of them just for sake of it. Is there anyway i can get them to not hit the arch when i lower the car. Should i get the measuring tape out and work out what drop i need.

Im pretty sure the 18XE is small block, hence f13/f15 fit straight on, saves messing about with shafts. It will be perfectly fine, im running 176bhp on an F13 with an atb diff and sri driveshafts.

As for the wheels, they 100% will rub (probably rub even on std suspension)

The x18xe is a big block engine, its the x18xe1 that is the small block like the 1400's and 1600's. Arghh im not happy with the wheels then. Ill just sell them and get different wheels then haa.

    Little update ................

As the new interior loom would not fit, had to re-fit the old loom. And going to cut into it to get a rev counter working. Also got the 1.4 16v engine fitted on its mounts, so going to finish off fitting that tomorrow and finish putting the dash back together. The starter motor live is nackered (snapped) so going to wire up a engine switch for the time being untill i get a new starter.

Im in two minds now tho weather to put my money into the car or get a different car grrrr

Also what cars did the c18xe come out of

Seems as the alloys i bought were too much of a wide fitment, i spoke to the bloke and he has kindly agreed to swap the renault gt wheels for another set (this time original vauxhall ones)

He has 2 sets over there, can you tell me which ones are which and what would look better on my car in black

I only need to know about where to get centre caps for them wheels and what wheels they are.

Also are the standard shocks capeable of a 60mm drop. If so ill order my springs tomorrow.

    c18 xe came in late phase1 mk3 astra gsi's
First set of wheels are corsa c sxi's
second set are Mk3 astra wheels that came on many spec versions (mainly just above basic spec's though and run out models) that are not sport or gsi wheels.
60mm springs would probably go with standard suspension but the ride would be harsh due to the standard shocks not being able to cope with the lowered springs, i would recomend up rating the shocks

Ok thanks for that. Will they look ok without the centre caps. Im a bit strapped for cash atm can just afford springs. As long as the shocks can handle them for a bit i dont mind.

Would you lot have the bumpers i got now sprayed or get the sport bumpers and have them sprayed ??

Also any poinions on styling wise let me know as im always looking for fresh things

in my opinion, they look better without the center caps. try just the springs for now, weve all just done the springs and not the shocks and put up with the harsh ride for the low look! i would say use a set of sport bumpers as the rubbing down of the rough plastic bumpers can take an age.

Ok thanks for that mate. I been looking for centre caps without that anti-theft thing, so looks like if i have them it will be without centre caps anyways. I will order my springs tomorrow now, then i can always get the shocks at a later date. I wont be doing the sanding anyways so im not worried. Just dont know which will look better. Might just keep the ''merit'' look.

I got a pro sprayer to do my work, but can they get as good of a finish as others

the anti theft thing is only a bolt that comes away from the center cap and im sure the replacement bolt and a new key can still be bought new from vauxhall dealers.

center caps wont stay on without the bolts (its all that holds them on - there are no clips and they are metal)

    Re: Corsa B 1994

Went to start the 1.4 earlier having a little trouble starting it tho. Its cranking well.
Checked for spark thats ok, also theres fuel getting in.
The exhaust manifold is off and when its cranking theres only exhaust coming out of port 2 & 3. Nothing at all out of 1 & 4.

    Any ideas ??

Also down the drivers footwell where the ECU is there is 2 clips that go to ECU, another connector for fuel pump which is connected, but there is also another connector but nothing to connect to.

Anyone know what this is ??

    Update ........

I went over to west wales earlier to pick up a set of alloys, i had the mk3 astra alloys, also picked up a new rear light for MOT and also a top radiator hose.

I have also just bought a set of new smoked side repeaters so should have them some time next week.

Also going to get the paint stripper on the alloys now this weekend and sand them smooth ready for primer. Not sure what black to go for tho haa.

    Re: Corsa B 1994

Due to the weather today i wont be out on the car so going to put the stripper on the alloys later and prepare them for paint.

Any advice when doing this ??

Also just ordered myself some 60mm lowering springs, so i should have my springs and side repeaters by wednesday. Got a good few bits together now in my parts room haa.
I will have the springs, side repeaters, cesaro alloys and full stainless steel straight through exhaust system with de-cat ready to be fitted.

Will get some pictures up when i recieve my goods, i feel like a kid at christmas.
