Got the car turned over again so I could paint underneath, also made a tower for the panhard rod. Im waiting in some rod ends to come so I can make the panhard rod and the top arms for the axle...
Its good to get a bit of paint on the car, seems like progress is being made!!!

Is that a lighter shade? Is the rest of it gonna be like that?

Yup, its electric blue, the whole car will be done in it, inside and out. I didnt really like the original colour, this suits it a bit better I think.

    Re: Viva HB 16V

Bit more progress, Ive managed to get the car turned again, fitted the rear axle and made sure my wheels fitted 8) Ive set the diff so the nose points up slightly as you can get strange vibrations if the prop runs straight. Ive also managed to get the engine bay in paint after loads of prep to smooth out the repairs. I did think about welding up all the holes and hiding all the wiring and brake lines but I cant be bothered with the hassle to be honest....
the paint has a fair bit of orange peel (not enough thinners I think) but its nothing some wet and dry and G3 wont sort.....

looking really good, Im looking forward to seeing how the colour looks on the outside of the shell.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... "f*ck, what a trip!"

Ive had another go at painting the bay today as I wasnt happy with the finish I got yesterday....Painting can be a right pain!!!
Theres a few bits of dust in it but the finish is much better this time.

    Re: Viva HB 16V

Cheers guys, haha no rattle cans. Ive got a small 2.5HP compressor and a cheapo ebay gun, I sprayed it with 2 pack. Its come out good, the trick seems to be get as much paint on as you can then flat it off after and polish for a shine.
Its been loads of work but its turned out well. Still got the boot bonnet and doors to do though!!

    Re: Viva HB 16V

Not much of an update this time, been busy with other distractions!! Got the tank painted. It was a nightmare getting the gunk off, it was really thick in places...Got the hubs and discs on too. They are Mk2 escort hubs machined on the back with 2.8 Capri discs. Not sure what to do for calipers yet but Ive got a few ideas...
Ive started on the engine and box aswell. Made some engine mounts from 3mm plate (Ill weld these to the front cross member when the weather gets better, dont have enough room to do it in the garage.)The bottom end is built with new rings, shells oil pump and water pump. I didnt take anypics of this, Ill get some next time Im out. I put the bellhousing on my gearbox only to remember that its a 2.8 box, not a normal one which means the input shaft is longer. So out comes the grinder to make some mods!! I took about 15mm off the end and 13mm off the splines, then used a dti so make sure it wasnt too wobbly.....
