Got a bit done to the car today, finished the bits of welding on the sill. Got the axles off and tipped the shell on its side to start on the underseal....not a fun job on your own in a single garage!!

Now Ive got the job of scraping all the underseal off, no looking forward to that!!

You're a leg end mate. Good thing I found about scraping under seal off was....

Fook all! I robbed a tool from the body shop I worked at it was a wire wheel but with loose wires and they all had kink in the end I'm utterly funked if I can remember what it's called but by Christ it was epically good at taking it off....

Well worth getting one if you can...
Clicky link for the longest (11 years and counting) rebuild thread..

    Re: Viva HB 16V

You cant get repair panels for these, nobody makes anything for them anymore....just got to wait for stuff to turn up on ebay or through the owners club. the last front wing I saw on ebay went for nearly £400. you can get fiberglass wings but fiberglass is for kit cars and barry boys....

Turning the shell was a right pain, tried using car tyres under it to start with but it hit the wooden frame for the door so I nicked some bike tyres off a mate and that gave me enough room. Bloody tight though!!

Ive done the whole lying on my back scraping off underseal. Never again!!

    Re: Viva HB 16V

Been doing bits here and there with the Viva, lots of scraping and swearing! I bloody hate this job!!
Worth it though, even under sound looking underseal there were patches of surface rust. good to get it all out now!
Ive still got the passenger side rear arch and sill to do then Ill bare metal it and give it a coat of etch primer and stone chip. If it lasts another 40 years Ill be happy.

I managed to get hold of a wing and the other bits i needed so Ive got no more excuses for being lazy, need to get cracking if this is going to billing!!!

I'll put it in a separate thread rather than hijacking Vauxscott's project thread - which is great on it's own !

Too bloody cold to do anything on the car....

Opelturbo, the rad came from ebay. It was designed for a mk1 escort, think it was around £300.

    Re: Viva HB 16V

Ive started on the back axle. I cut off the axle brackets from the viva axle and welded them to the English. Still got the top arms to do.

I think I might put a panhard rod on aswell, Ive seen kits for escorts which could be modified.....more work to do.
