    ecotec van

im strongly considering putting a 2.0 ecotec (out of calibre) in my astra van. the engine has only done 40k and had a full rebuild. supposidely they are rapid and u get around 45mpg (i need decent fuel consumption for work). but on all the forums ive looked on everyone says they are proper ****. need help....

do i do it and risk ****ing my van up? or do i keep my 1.7 tdi isuzu engine with its 45-50mpg?

eccotec in my Caibra can yield 45mpg but only if driven sensibly around 60-70mph, if you were going to push it and accelerate harder, then I am afaraid it wouldn't yield that, clearly any engine doesn't matter what it is, requires fuel to provide mechanical energy, and energy requires fuel, the faster you demand this energy (acceleration...moving mass in shortest possible time) will require higher energy and thus consumption, then you have the rolling resistance of a car/van, the weight it is carrying, the weight of the vehicle itself, the aero dynamics which becomes critical as the speed increases.

For town driving your diesel should be a better option, for faster motorway driving eccotec may be just as good, and quicker, however diesels are slopy in acceleration but they d0 yield higher mpg overall.

And don't forget every kilo of unwanted weight in your car or van requires energy to be transported!

in my opinion the ecotec is the way forward , especially if your mate is givin it to you for free .. it will be class and you wont give a **** about puttin a extra 20 quid of petrol in a week because you will have audi tts and the likes suckin our balls when we honk past in the vans ... besides the isuzu has had its day after sucking 6 litre of water thru the air filter trying to kick over a tree and having just about every mechanical part replaced ...... ecotec it you chimp fcuking little baastard
