Talking my astra coupe convertable z16xep project

hiya guys and gals .. soo here goes , i purchased a 2004(54) astra cuope convertable in black as a replacment for my modified clio 1.2 16v .. anyway the car is standard as of the moment but future goals will include :

gsi or modified coupe front bumper
    full de-badge
    colour coded rear boot strip
    lower around 20-30mm
    leather interior
a small sub and amp combo installed subtley in boot
    badgeless grill
    17-18 inch wheels
    uprated discs and pads
c/z20let engine conversion (when my millage is suitably high)

and whatever else comes to mind...

Looks very nice mate! No offence, but if you plan to do a z20let conversion, why not just buy a cab turbo in the first place, as insurance will be lower and you won't need to do things like convert to 5 stud axles, or are you still young so need to wait a few years for insurance?

no offence taken , im 20 but i couldnt find any cab turbos with a decent low millage body .. mine onli has 16k on it. lmao gunna wait atleast another year before the let engine... hopefully my insurance wont be rediculous in another year as il b 22 then ..(im 21 in 3 weeks)

and i plan to change to 5 stud soon anyway as i want to fit the 18inch bk999 (vxr style) alloys but they onli come in 5 stud fitment, plus you get the bonus of better brake upgrade which even with the 1.6 cant be a bad thing

shes a very lucky woman lmao , stunning colour tbh.. and id be happy with my car making 170bhp soo what would you say is the best way to go about it? standard c20let? modified c20xe/x20xev? or highly modified z16xep but id like to keep the car as close to smooth as standard as possible.....

A standard LET will be more reliable than a highly tuned 1600, and if you ever want a little more......a remap will see you well! The astra RR'ded 200.8 bhp but is totally standard apart from a panel filter.

A standard Z20LET is by far your best bet, tuning the 1.6 would cost a fortune and never be a match for a 2.0 turbo and would you really want to put an old C20XE or C20LET in a 54 reg car that has only done 16K miles, i know i wouldn't.

Re: my astra coupe convertable z16xep project

For insurance, try HIC or any of the other specialist brokers. Most won't touch you if its an engine conversion, hence why a factory fit ZLET is far cheaper to insure than a 1.6 converted to ZLET.

Re: my astra coupe convertable z16xep project

hmmmm i see, , i think i may have to just do the usuall exhaust, cams, filter and remap to my 1.6 and just make it look nice then get a z20 in a year or two ...soooo if i wanted fast road cams who are the best option? or could i get my standard cams re-profiled? i dont want the rediculous lump idle tho ... dont mind abit worse idle but nothing extream ...

Kent or piper might be worth a look, i assume your engine is the same as fitted to corsas, so try looking at some of the specs people have used as there are plenty of quick corsas about.
